Effects

Using this skill applies  Blade Shield, as well as  Swordplay: Blade Shield to the Mariner. This effect is consumed by the next Swordplay skill.

Skill Interactions

The following Swordplay skills empower Blade Shield:

•  En Garde makes this skill grant +50% Parry Chance.

The following skills are empowered when they are the next Swordplay skill used after Blade Shield:

•  Riposte deals +50% Damage. It additionally applies  Debilitating Counter (requires yellow-line trait).
•  Step Back grants -15% Incoming Damage.

Trait Interactions

• The trait  Enervating Counter in the Rover trait tree makes  Riposte apply Debilitating Counter when used after this skill.

Tracery Interactions

• Defensive Swordplay Buff Durations increases the duration of Blade Shield by up to 3.3 seconds.
  

Armour Set Interactions

Equipping 2 pieces of the Umbari Armour of the Stars armour set acquired from the Depths of Mâkhda Khorbo Raid increases the duration of Blade Shield by 2 seconds.

Tactical Information

Blade Shield is mainly used before Step Back to improve the Mariner's defensives for a short duration. This skill is also more commonly used in Yellow-line to improve the damage of Riposte.
