Arassuil was the eleventh Chieftain of the Dúnedain, receiving the chieftaincy in T.A. 2719. He was among the forefathers of Aragorn II and belonged to the long-hidden line of the Kings of Arnor.
Life and Chieftainship
During Arassuil's chieftainship, the Orcs of the Misty Mountains grew increasingly bold and began to press westward into Eriador. The Rangers of the North fought many skirmishes and battles to contain these incursions, striving to protect the scattered peoples of the region.
Despite these efforts, one band of Orcs managed to reach the Shire, where they were met and defeated by the Hobbits themselves in T.A. 2747 at the Battle of Greenfields. The Hobbits were led by Bandobras 'Bullroarer' Took, whose deed became legendary among his people.
Arassuil's rule also encompassed the hardships of the Long Winter in T.A. 2758, when severe cold and famine struck much of Eriador. During this time, Gandalf and the Rangers gave aid to the Hobbits of the Shire, helping them to endure the devastation.
Death and Succession
Arassuil died in T.A. 2784, after sixty-five years as Chieftain of the Dúnedain. He was succeeded by his son, Arathorn I.
