Arathorn I was the twelfth Chieftain of the Dúnedain, succeeding his father Arassuil upon his death in T.A. 2784.
Life and Chieftainship
During the later years of his father's rule, the Orcs of the Misty Mountains once more grew bold and began to trouble Eriador. These threats persisted into Arathorn's own chieftainship, and the Rangers of the North continued their quiet vigilance against the enemies of the Free Peoples.
Little is recorded of Arathorn's deeds, reflecting the secretive nature of the Dúnedain during this period. Nevertheless, his rule fell within a time of renewed danger following the Long Winter, when many lands had yet to fully recover.
Death and Succession
Arathorn I died prematurely in T.A. 2848, after ruling for sixty-four years. He was succeeded by his son, Argonui.
