Using this skill applies Swordplay: Advance to the Mariner. This effect is consumed by the next Swordplay skill.

The following Swordplay skills empower Advance:
- Thrust makes this skill deal +30% Damage. It additionally makes this skill apply Attacker's Advantage (requires red-line trait).
- Riposte makes this skill deal +30% Damage. It additionally makes this skill apply Stunned for 2 seconds (requires yellow-line trait).
The following skills are empowered when they are the next Swordplay skill used after Advance:
- Lunge, Dramatic Flourish, Flèche, and Draining Strike deal +50% Damage (75% in red-line).
- Dramatic Flourish gains +10% Critical Chance.
- Debilitating Strike applies Primary Weapon: Disarmed to the enemy target (requires yellow-line trait).
Trait Interactions
- The trait Attacker's Advantage in the Duellist trait tree makes this skill apply Attacker's Advantage to the enemy target when used after Thrust.
- The set bonus Follow-through in the Duellist trait tree increases Finisher damage by 25% when used after this skill.
- The trait Salted Wounds in the Duellist trait tree increases the bleed damage of this skill by up to 10%.
- The trait Shocking Counterattack in the Rover trait tree makes this skill have up to a 100% chance to apply Stunned for 2 seconds when used after Riposte.
- The trait Masterful Disarm in the Rover trait tree makes Debilitating Strike apply Primary Weapon: Disarmed when used after this skill.
- The trait Test Defences in the Duellist trait tree makes this skill tier up Critical Aim on the Mariner upon Critical hit, up to 3 stacks. Further ranks allow the effect to tier up to 5 stacks.
- The trait A Watched Pot in the Rover trait tree makes this skill reduce the active cooldown of all Haversack skills by 1 seconds upon Critical hit.
- The trait Sharpened Blades in the Duellist trait tree increases the damage of this skill by up to 10%.
- The trait Slashing Blade in the Duellist trait tree replaces this skill with Sweeping Advance.
Tracery Interactions
- Fore Skills Damage increases the damage of this skill by up to 16.5%.
- Swordplay Damage increases the damage of this skill by up to 11%.
Tactical Information
Advance is usually not used in its base form, as Sweeping Advance is much preferred. Regular Advance is more popular among Yellow-line Mariners, but most choose to use Sweeping Advance for the AoE damage and greater chance to land critical hits.
