Whispers in the Pits
"After being granted a troubling vision by the Green Lady, you have travelled to Dol Guldur in search of Karazgar. What will you find in the shattered halls of Gostador?"

Background

Although Galadriel remains doubtful that Karazgar has returned to the ruins of Dol Guldur, she has mustered a company to aid you in your search for the Weeping Warrior in the depths of Dol Dhannen.

Objective 1

Karazgar may be found somewhere within the ruins of Gostador.

You returned to Dol Dhannen in search of Karazgar and have descended into Gostador. You should search for Karazgar.

Trapped Archer says, "A <race>? If there's a way in, there's a way out!"
Trapped Warrior says, "Better than waitin' to die down here!"
As you approach the throne of the Necromancer, a vision comes over you...

Objective 2

  • Witness the shadowy impressions evil has left upon this chamber

A powerful presence has left its mark upon this chamber, and fell voices whisper of the past.

Sauron says, "None of the emissaries I sent to the Mountain have returned alive."
Sauron says, "Devoured... burned by dragon-fire..."
Sauron says, "Have I misjudged your worth, Karazgar?"
Karazgar says, "You have never misjudged any who serve you, Lord Sauron."
Karazgar says, "By my hand, Thostír, Fingar, and the hated Hrímil are imprisoned in Mordor."
Karazgar says, "The dragon Smaug was deceived by my plan and brought his wrath upon the dwarves."
Karazgar says, "I have done as you wished."
Sauron says, "No."
Sauron says, "Smaug the Golden does not serve me."
Sauron says, "Sloth and greed are his masters."
Karazgar says, "What would you have me do, my lord?"
Sauron says, "I shall send no more emissaries."
Sauron says, "You will go to the Mountain this time, Karazgar."

Objective 3

  • Examine objects within the Room of Voices in Gostador

There may be more left to discover within the Room of Voices.

Shadowy impressions from the past unfold before your sight

Objective 4

  • Witness the shadowy impressions evil has left upon this chamber

A powerful presence has left its mark upon this chamber, and fell voices whisper of the past.

Sauron says, "You have come unbidden, Karazgar."
Karazgar says, "I travelled to the Mountain and delivered your demands to the dragon Smaug."
Sauron says, "And you have returned."
Karazgar says, "Yes, my lord."
Karazgar says, "Three tokens I bore to the Mountain."
Karazgar says, "The scales of the hated Ring-drakes, the skull of Thráin..."
Karazgar says, "And when he thought naught of those..."
Karazgar says, "I laid before him the twin of the axe I used to raise his ire against the dwarves."
Karazgar says, "Though he laboured to conceal it, his fear betrayed him."
Sauron says, "And this proves him a worthy servant to me?"
Karazgar says, "I offered him a choice, Lord Sauron."
Karazgar says, "I will return to the Mountain in fifty years to hear his answer."
Karazgar says, "This time he will serve willingly."
Sauron says, "Fifty years, Karazgar. No longer."

Objective 5

  • Examine objects within the Room of Voices in Gostador

There may be more left to discover within the Room of Voices.

Shadowy impressions from the past unfold before your sight

Objective 6

  • Witness the shadowy impressions evil has left upon this chamber

A powerful presence has left its mark upon this chamber, and fell voices whisper of the past.

Sauron says, "The Grey Fool has come."
Sauron says, "He knows now the truth of the Necromancer, but it matters not."
Sauron says, "His staff is lost, and his Council shall come too late."
Sauron says, "But they will come, and I will abandon Dol Guldur."
Sauron says, "The Nazgûl have long prepared for my return to Mordor."
Sauron says, "Barad-dûr shall rise from its ruins, and my servants will gather beneath it."
Sauron says, "But for you, loyal Gúrzyul, I have another task."
Sauron says, "The time shall soon come to hear the answer of Smaug the Golden."
Sauron says, "Order him to Mordor. If he does not obey, destroy him."
Sauron says, "When the last survivors of the Desolation are slain, these lands shall be yours."
Karazgar says, "You are generous and wise, Lord Sauron."
Karazgar says, "I will not fail you."
As the shadowy impressions fade, you hear a familiar voice calling out for you...

Objective 7

Sigileth is standing at the edge of the Room of Voices in Gostador.

You have witnessed many events of Karazgar's past, but did not find Karazgar in Gostador. After waiting for a time, Sigileth has come to find you.

Sigileth says, "<name>!"
Sigileth: 'What has happened, <name>? Did Karazgar escape by some secret path?'
You explain to Sigileth that shadowy impressions revealed much of the history of Karazgar and Sauron in Dol Guldur. After the impressions were interrupted when you first came to Gostador and discovered Sigileth, you were meant to return and witness the last remnants of the Necromancer's evil lingering within the Room of Voices.
'I am not certain I understand, but I believe your words. Karazgar is an elusive foe, but it seems something of his mind was revealed to you. Let us hope there is an advantage to be gained from it!
'The Orcs that remain here have grown hungry and wild. If you have found what you sought, we should leave this place.'
