Bestowal Dialogue
Grimbold has fallen into a deep gloom since the death Prince Théodred, and deeper still when Elfhelm and the Rohirrim abandoned him. He now awaits death as the last defender of the Fords.
Background
You must convince Grimbold to rally his spirits and help to defend the King at Helm's Deep.
Objective 1
Grimbold sits at Théodred's grave at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Grimbold.
- Grimbold: 'Leave me be and let the enemy come. Just let them come! I will fall here with Prince Théodred.
- 'I should have been the one to die, not him, for I had nothing to live for.'
Objective 2
Grimbold sits at Théodred's grave at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Grimbold.
- Grimbold says, "This is where I belong."
- Grimbold says, "I have cheated death for too long. Just leave me alone."
- You must convince Grimbold that he is wrong....
Objective 3
- Tell Grimbold the story of Elfhelm's regret
Grimbold sits at Théodred's grave at the Fords of Isen.
You should talk to Grimbold -- tell him the story of Elfhelm's regret.

- Elfhelm says, "I have wronged your husband, lady Hildith, but I hope this rights things between myself and Grimbold."
- Elfhelm says, "It would seem we have all abandoned him...."

- Hildith says, "If he lives, he is abandoned and alone. It is my fault."
- Grimbold says, "My Hildith...."
- Grimbold says, "No, it will not do. Rohan will fall, and I will fall with it."
- Grimbold sits stubbornly, his eyes fixed upon the ground

- Tell Grimbold the story of the king

- Théoden says, "The last host of Eorlingas rides forth, and it shall not return without battle."
- Théoden says, "You thought I remained in Meduseld, hunched like an old tree beneath winter snow."
- Théoden says, "So it was when you went to war. But a wind from the west has shaken the boughs...."
- Grimbold says, "Can it be true? The king has ridden to war himself?"
- Grimbold says, "The king leaves his hall and rides to war?"
- Grimbold says, "I feel as if I slumbered too long, and woke to find the world wholly changed...."
- Grimbold says, "I could not save his son, but I will endeavour to keep my king from harm."
- The shadow of despair is lifted from Grimbold's brow

Grimbold is at Théodred's grave at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Grimbold.
- Grimbold: 'If my aging king can bring himself from a warm hearth and soft chair, then I will not yet condemn Rohan as lost. I will fight for Théoden, as I have always done!
- 'Erkenbrand, Erkenbrand. We must find him, for he had good soldiers with him before we were split asunder. Erkenbrand! He cannot be far.'
- Grimbold says, "For Théoden! For Erkenbrand!"
Objective 7
Grimbold is at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Grimbold.
- Grimbold: Grimbold has stopped short, his voice dropped to a whisper.
- 'Look out ahead. Do you see the size of that troll?
- 'We must try to take him down. I do not think we will die today, <name>, however the odds may be against us. You take the smaller ones, and I will keep the big brute busy until you are able to aid me.'

- Try to defeat Bosnauk with Grimbold
The troll Bosnauk is at the Fords of Isen.
You should defeat Bosnauk with Grimbold, if you can.
- Help Grimbold fight!
- Bosnauk is defeated!
Objective 9
- Observe the meeting at the fords
Gandalf is at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Gandalf.
- Erkenbrand says, "Grimbold, is that you? I have been searching everywhere for you, and I heard a commotion!"
- Grimbold says, "Erkenbrand! Gandalf...how did we meet here?"
- Erkenbrand says, "It would seem that we have all been looking for each other, Grimbold."
- Erkenbrand says, "Though I cannot fathom how we were so lucky as to arrive here at the same time."
- Gandalf says, "I suppose I had a little something to do with it as well! But come, you must listen...."
Objective 10
Gandalf is at the Fords of Isen.
You should speak with Gandalf.
- Gandalf: 'You have found Grimbold, and Erkenbrand has found us! This is an unexpected turn of fortune indeed.
- 'I am sorry that your reunion must be swift, but we cannot tarry here, my friends. It is to the Hornburg that we must look.'
- Gandalf: 'Erkenbrand, lead on! We will go to your encampment, for we must plan our next move at once.'
