Game Mechanics
Hobbit Presents are introduced in Update 11: Treachery of the White Hand in May of 2013.
- Hobbit Presents FAQ (24 April 2013)
- Standing Stone Games advertises these as "Hobbit Presents," but the User Interface also refers to them as "Hobbit Gifts."
- Hobbit Presents are free daily and weekly rewards that you receive by logging into LOTRO on a daily basis.
- Note that the "Free Present" is defined "by Account by server!" Any toon can claim the rewards for that day or week for your account on a particular server. (One set of presents per server.) Subsequently log-ins by additional toons on that account will NOT be offered "free" presents.
- All presents are Bound to Account.
- The possible rewards are split into tiers every 10 levels just like Steel-bound Lootboxes
- All players will receive one free daily Silver Hobbit Present. This is per Server, not per character.
- The daily reset occurs at 3am EST every night.
- VIP players will receive one free weekly Gold Hobbit Present in addition to their Daily Silver Hobbit Present. This is per Server, not per character.
- The weekly reset occurs at 3am EST every Thursday.
- You may use Mithril Coins to spin again; 2 coins for silver and 8 coins for gold.
- If you skip logging in for one or more days, your free Hobbit Presents do not carry over.
- Stone Games has released information about some of the items available in the game's Hobbit Presents and Lootboxes, so you have a better understanding of what can be obtained. The information below will change over time as items are changed, and the systems themselves are updated.
- You may receive your Hobbit Presents for Free or you can expend Mithril Coins to get more than one at a time.
- Only VIPs get a Free Gold Present.
- The "Presents display" is like a typical slot machine... "desirables" flicking by to entice you to "try again," while stopping on something else. The rarity of the reward in the selection process is shown to the left of each.
Presents
- Lists of possible rewards fall into tiers every 10 levels. The level of the character opening the present determines which tier is pulled from.
- Most rewards are Tiered, Scaling, or Minimum Level rewards.
- Tiered rewards - Similarly named rewards whose exact attributes change with each tier of possible rewards. Includes Pile of metal Scraps and Mathom-hunter gear.
- Mathom-hunter gear is tailored to the character opening the present (i.e. heavy armour classes will get heavy armour Mathom-hunter gear, light armour classes will get light armour Mathom-hunter gear).
- Scaling rewards - Rewards whose exact attributes change depending on the level of the player using it. Includes Universal Morale Potions, Rejuvenation Potions, Dale-men's Crams.
- Minimum Level rewards - Rewards which are only included after a specific minimum level. Includes items which affect Legendary Items and skirmishes.
- Tiered rewards - Similarly named rewards whose exact attributes change with each tier of possible rewards. Includes Pile of metal Scraps and Mathom-hunter gear.
- Rewards fall into one of 5 rarity levels: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Incomparable, Legendary
- The rarity is shown as an icon to the left of each reward.
- Percentage chances of rarity levels are roughly (as of Update 11 release):
Rarity Silver Presents Gold Presents
Common55% 50%
Uncommon35% 15%
Rare6% 31%
Incomparable3% 3%
Legendary1% 1%
Gold Presents
- From very unscientific look, the Level 80 gear is a common "hit" -- as are the Piles of Gold and Silver
