Description
Physical Description: To the casual observer, Creocryth Gryffyn is a relatively ordinary man. He stands at six feet tall, though his usual slouch belies his slightly athletic build. Creocryth's light hair is kept short and neat. A large scar runs from his right brow to his chin. Though he wears an patch over the scar, he has occassionally been seen without it; this has led to speculation that his right eye is indeed fully functional, and not blinded.
Personality Description: Creocryth is, as a general rule, easy-going and relaxed, willing to strike up a conversation with almost anyone. He has an interesting outlook on life in middle-earth, especially for a thief: he sees the world in a peculiar shade of grey, tending towards optimism in most situations. His casual, kindly demeanor and easy speech have earned him more friends than enemies.
Bio
Creocryth is, first and foremost, a thief. Born in Dale, his father taught him a great deal about the trade of a jeweller, both intending the younger to take over the family business at some point. Unfortunately for the Gryffyns, his parents had no choice but to close up shop after a wandering thief stole most of their wares. Ever resourceful, Creocryth decided to fight fire with fire; he began pickpocketing in his early teens, becoming a master of stealth by the time he turned twenty.
Garnering a significant reputation as a forger and con-artist, Creocryth set out to track the thief that stole his family's livelyhood. He eventually located the criminal, whom he confronted for the pilfered merchandise - only to discover an uncomfortable truth.
The thief had stolen the Gryffyn family's stockpile not out of greed, as Creocryth had anticipated - he had stolen it as payment to a group of brigands threatening his family. This gave Creocryth an interesting perspective on theft and wealth - a perspective that drove him to assist the man he once vowed to obtain revenge upon.
Together, Creocryth and the other thief raided the brigand camp, recovering the entire stock stolen from Dale and more - effectively doubling the value of the original heist from the Gryffyns. Taking his family's property back to Dale, Creocryth gave the excess to the original thief and promised to return sometime for a few pints at the local tavern.
After returning home to Dale with the Gryffyn livelyhood in tow, Creocryth struck out alone and became one of the more infamous thieves in Eriador, earning himself several months in various prisons. Though specializing in general burglary, he has a special affinity for any jewelry or relics - due to his background as a Tinker, he has made an impressive number of forgeries and passed them off as genuine articles and skipped town before any lore-masters or Eldar examined the fakes.
Now operating around Bree, Creocryth enjoys limited protection from the Guardsmen of Bree from the Dúnedain Rangers; specifically, the half-Dúnedain Nick Thornwell has recruited him as a scout against the forces of Angmar spreading from the north.
