Walkthrough & Notes

After speaking with the Master of Apprentices/Mistress of Apprentices in any given crafting area, they will direct you to either the nearest Expert Cook or the nearest Novice Cook, depending on the level of the area you are in. Once you speak to the cook vendor, they will give you a cook starter pack. Right-click on the item in your inventory to open it. The contents should automatically appear in your inventory - you will need at least three empty bag spaces for the ingredients and a fourth for the crafted item itself. Make sure your Cooking Supplies are equipped, and use the closest oven to craft a Cup of Spring Barley Flour. This recipe is acquired automatically upon becoming an apprentice cook, and should be under the heading "Ingredients" on the left sidebar of the crafting panel. After making the flour, you will be able to craft the Hard Biscuits (under the heading "Cooked Food"). Once the biscuits have been created, return to the vendor. She/he will approve your handiwork, and this will complete the quest. Notes: Although the vendor will inspect the biscuits, they will stay in the player's inventory after the quest has been completed. The quest text says "Esilia" in all the objectives when referring to the cook vendor, regardless of where you are. The cook vendor in any crafting area can accept and forward you through this quest, so there is no need to specially seek out Esilia. The bestowal dialogue will vary upon location and race.

Bestowal dialogue Well then, you wish to set out on a career of being a cook. Let me tell you, <Race>, I find it admirable whenever I see folk like yourself trying your hand at such a noble craft. Granted, we hobbits are the finest cooks in all the land, but we are certainly not above teaching our craft to those willing to learn. Over by the oven there is <name of nearest Novice Cook NPC>. She has offered to teach anyone new to cooking the very basics as part of her training to become a true expert at her craft. Background Cooks craft the ... Be careful! You will need to complete the correct recipes and deliver the correct items outlined in this quest. You will need to execute the cup of spring flour and hard biscuits recipes and deliver the hard biscuits. Failing to do so will force you to obtain new raw materials or to restart the quest after a 24-hour delay. Objective 1 Speak with Esilia near the oven in the crafting area. NOTE: Although the quest objective uses the name Esilia (the novice cook in Combe), the quest objective may be advanced by speaking with any novice cook. You have been provided with a box of ingredients. Objective 2 Esilia provided you with a crate full of ingredients that you can use to execute the rough cloak recipe. Open the crate to get the ingredients. Open the crate given to you by Esilia to collect the two bundles of spring barley, one chicken egg, and one bottle of water. You have acquired 2 Bundles of Spring Barley You have acquired 1 Chicken Egg You have acquired 1 Bottle of Water You now have all the ingredients to make a hard biscuit. Ingredients for Cooks are normally purchased from vendors or traded from players with the farmer profession. You can also find the ingredients on the Auction Hall. Objective 3 Esilia provided you with the ingredients necessary to create a hard biscuit. First, however, you must prepare the cup of spring barley flour. Cup of Spring Barley Flour (0/1) You have made a cup of spring barley flour. Objective 4 The cup of spring barley flour is complete, and you are now ready to create the hard biscuit, as instructed by Esilia. Hard Biscuits (0/1) You have made a hard biscuit. Objective 5 The recipe is complete. Do not sell the hard biscuits! It is time to show your handiwork to your mentor, Esilia. Bring the hard biscuits to Esilia. 'Let me see what you were able to do.' She inspects the hard biscuit with a discerning eye. 'Good golden colour on the top, and it looks sufficiently hardened. The smell is making my mouth water and my belly rumble.'
