Update 22: Legacy of the Necromancer - Soundtrack is the official soundtrack for Update 22: Legacy of the Necromancer, released on April 17, 2018. It was created by Bill Champagne and released as a playlist on YouTube.

Production and Release

Champagne's first compositions included in LotRO were the new tracks for the Cape of Belfalas housing area as well as the majority of the music for the Wastes. Legacy of the Necromancer appears to be the first zone for which Champagne composed all the music.

Champagne originally made a demo in 2009 inspired by Don Guldur while the Siege of Mirkwood expansion was being worked on while becoming familiar with digital music composition at the time. This demo was the basis for the tracks "the Razed Stronghold", "Darkness and Hope", "Lingering Shadow", and "the Broken Fortress".

The day/night music seen in several locations was inspired by Xenoblade Chronicles 2; this is a feature that LotRO for the most part does not have (some exceptions being the Shire and the Trollshaws). These differences in day and night music can be seen in Dale ("Bells of Dale" and "As Dale Slumbers") and Lake-town ("Life in Laketown" and "Long Lake Serenade").

"Plans of the Dark Lord" gathers together many different themes to tie the story together including themes from Chance Thomas' "Chant for Sauron", Champagne's Dol Guldur-inspired themes from this soundtrack, as well as the music Champagne wrote for the Court of Seregost instance.

The soundtrack was released as a YouTube playlist on April 17, 2018. It has been mentioned on the LotRO forums that they are looking into releasing this soundtrack as well as the Update 23 soundtrack in a downloadable format.
