Talk:Traits
- I don't like that the trait infobox got moved to the very bottom of the page. I think it should be the first thing a user sees below the table of contents. Most of the time someone wants just a quick bit of info, which they can get from the top of the page. Then if they want to dig down deeper they can go further into the page for more detailed information. I've noticed this trend of putting the infobox at the bottom of the page for other pages lately, and to me it is more usable near the top. Anybody else have comments on this?

- I like the look of this page now but it's about 2-3 pages to long. I think we should shorten the class and racial traits section.
- Well almost like it.. I think there should be one graphic at the top? Could be comical or just a picture of the Taits Page...
--Hinney 19:53, 19 March 2007 (PDT)
Moving the infobox had less to do with "getting it out of the way" than with the order I had written the associated text. At the time, learning what traits are and then learning how to use them seemed like the right order. I have no object to leaving the table at the top otherwise. By the way, I'm all for comical graphics if you have some. I'm no graphic artist. :) --Hellis 19:58, 19 March 2007 (PDT)
- Maybe its a good idea to post how much equiping a trait costs. As i recall virtues are about a couple of silver pieces. But Race costs more and class a lot more. I never knew this untill i tried to equip my Sylvan Shadows trait which costs 80 silver.--Blakborn 04:47, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
- Do they stay the same whatever level? I haven't noticed any change so far. Reordering or removing a trait is free. Virues are 1s?c, Race horrendous, Class pricey but not nearly as bad as race & I'd imagine Legendary is even worse than Race. I'll try & check them out this evening. DancesInTrees 10:54, 27 May 2007 (PDT)
- I'm pretty sure the prices stay the same. At level 50, equipping Legendary traits costs a little over 100 silver each... but by the time you get to the point where you will have a Legendary skill or two, that will hardly be a considerable cost. In fact, I love the cost for exchanging class skills - I can fulfill an entirely different role for only about one or two hundred silver - compared to WoW's "50 Gold" respec cost. :)
- I was also wondering if any parts of the Lord of the Rings Online Traits Compendium could be used here - especially the section concerning Legendary traits, since this page doesn't list them at all.
--Fedaykin 08:59, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
- In these situations i normally use the forums as a guide and then I would inspect other characters in a common area to see if they have the legendary trait so you can get the screenshot and the full text of the trait. With that said as long as you give credit where credit is due for the list it's probably ok to fill out the traits page. You might also stub the page if you are unable to populate the full information.--Hinney 10:33, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
Traits Tables
I think that it's a bit misleading naming a column "Ability" in a table, sure some of them are or lead to abilities, but most are just stats increases or other boni, i've changed it in Elf Traits to "Trait", but i think we should come up with more persisting names =) --Xander 07:54, 21 March 2007 (PDT)
I agree the tables should be more consistant, and Trait is a more descriptive term than ability. --Hinney 09:11, 21 March 2007 (PDT)
In a list of things, I find "Name" to be the most appropriate label for the name column. Plus it's short. But yes, we need to come up with a consistent appearance for the trait, skill, and accomplishment tables. I had put off playing with those since we didn't seem to come to any agreement about how the visual appearance.
The icons make sense in the trait and virtue tables but seem like unnecessary clutter, to my eye, for the accomplishments tables. For the sake of consistency, though, perhaps it's best to leave them? --Hellis 11:52, 21 March 2007 (PDT)
This page is slowly getting too big and chaotic. I suggest that we change the layout and link to the individual trait-pages instead of linking from them. Just like it has been done with the Accomplishments-page... --Tjikke 05:39, 23 March 2007 (PDT)

Line bonus explanation
Please add a brief snippet explaning what "line bonus" means for class traits.

freemium players?
How much of this is different for freemium players? Do they need to spend turbine points to unlock more slots?
- Only for Virtue Traits. Only the first two slots are unlocked by leveling, the rest become available at the specified levels but must be unlocked with Turbine Points. I believe the price is only 95 tp each, easily earned simply by completing deeds. Theodobald 15:51, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
Price accuracy?
The prices given to confirm trait equippage sound outlandishly high. I have equipped Race and Class traits, and I have never had to pay more than a couple silver, and usually a lot less. Are the prices given in the article old values? Several times when I equipped newly-earned traits, I paid only a couple dozen copper. Are these endgame values, meaning that the price scales with character level? Theodobald 15:55, 18 October 2010 (EDT)
RoI Changes
Class traits now have a pink fluorescent "Skill Earned <br> <name of the skill>" at the bottom of their tooltip if the traits grants a skill that is otherwise grayed out. We should update this somewhere in the template. --Ravanel (talk) 05:28, 27 September 2011 (EDT)
- I wanted to solve this issue myself, but haven't been able to locate the template that is used for traits. Could someone tell me where this is found and what it's called or update the template accordingly him/herself? An example of what this parameter should look like is found in pink on the picture to the right. --Ravanel (talk) 14:12, 2 October 2011 (EDT)
- {{Infobox Trait}} is the template used to make the trait pages. Amphoras (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2011 (EDT)
- Thanks! I've managed to add "Skills Earned" there now, but I'm stuck at something else: there should be more space in between "Legendary" and the description text. Compare the picture to the right with the March of the Ents page here at the wiki. I can't find out how to change this in the template. If someone could help, that would be great! --Ravanel (talk) 05:52, 3 October 2011 (EDT)

Complete re-write needed for Traits
- This page needs to be completely re-written to describe the new Trait Tree system.
- It should probably be either re-named or a re-direct created for Trait Trees (or vice versa).
- This page should probably, as it does now, describe the technical aspect of the Trait Trees.
- I've begun to update the page... help is needed!
- LOTS of information appears to be "hidden" by the Store... i.e. if you are the "wrong" level/class/race/whatever it won't show you the info.
- Example. I do not know if a F2P character can unlock the first 2 virtue slots. It does not appear to be the case. I can find nothing in the store implying that Virtue slots are available to a Lvl 10 F2P character.
- My F2P Hunter has just hit Lvl 7 and has got his first virtue slot.
- LOTRO Store Class Trait Set Unlock appears to unlock ?one? or ?one Set" of Bonus skills. You tell me. The description is not particularly explanatory.
- No idea what the basic Trait info looks like for a Premium player.
- Trait trees are fully unlocked (including all bonus skills) for Premium players who were VIP at one time. It may operate the way trait slots did before Helm's Deep, i.e. the bonus skills may be unlocked for characters that were logged in during VIP access but not for characters created afterwards.

- I did a significant rewrite last night. I set out to just reorganize it, put the information in a more logical order to make it more "digestible". But I kind of got carried away and made 45 edits to it. In retrospect, I probably should have copied it to my sandbox and made my changes there, sought comment and contributions and consensus, blah, blah, blah. ;-) Anyway, the previous version is right there in the history, so I can still do this if people want. In addition to the reorganization, I ended up removing a lot of outdated information, removing excess detail (it now has links to the main articles for Virtues and Class Trait Points and just brief summaries here), improving the intro, and adding some pertinent details here and there. HD Revision
Ok, I've (hopefully) finished a first pass on massaging things for Helm's Deep and the Trait Trees.
- There is now a transclusion of Class Trait Point for much of the discussion. -- note that there is more on this page than is transcluded.
I started a page Trait Trees: Specialization but haven't done much with it yet.page deleted
Please look things over and update as necessary.
I have two questions, one at Bonus skills and one immediately below it at Trait Tree Panels.
General Class Deed Summaries by Class - Burglar
As a new member, rather than submitting an edit, I thought it wise to enter a discussion point.
In section 4.3 the Burglar Class is completely absent. Is there a reason for this or is it simply that no-one has yet submitted an edit?
In researching this I also notice that Burglars do not seem to get a Trait Point for completion of Class Quests which all form part of meta-deeds, i.e. you have to complete several class quests before gaining a single trait point. Does anyone know if this is an oversight on the part of the devs or is it WAI?
Any input would be greatly appreciated before I put the time in to attempt an edit... unless a more experienced editor starts the ball rolling in which case I am more than happy to undertake any research required. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fatefoot (Contribs • User Talk) at 16 July 2018.
