Issues
I organized and cleaned up the Article Management Tags/Display page. This made some inconsistencies and redundancies quite apparent:
- some stub templates are called "X Stub"; others are called "Stubs/X"
- there are three different templates for outdated/obsolete articles: Template:Stub/Outdated, Template:Obsolete, Template:Expansion
- there are two nearly-identical templates for legendary server info: Template:Legendary, Template:Legendary Only
- the category naming is somewhat inconsistent; for example, I don't think the Category:Stubs/Only Beta category should be a subcategory of Category:Stubs .... such articles may be fully complete, they just aren't applicable to the live servers.
- Template:Stub/Mob and Template:Creature Stub seem redundant with each other
I also deleted the table of AMTs from the main Article Management Tags article and just transcluded the /Display article. The table that was there didn't seem to add any value. --Thurallor (talk) 21:05, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
- As i understand it, obsolete is for stuff that was in game but is no longer there vs outdated is for marking current pages that are outdated
- Also according to naming creature vs mob is for enemies on landscape vs instance -- Drono (via Discord)
- Even tho it seems it was not used that way, i think we could use both 'Legendary' and 'Legendary Only'. Since some content was added only to Legendary servers, but i know at least portraits are earnable only on legendary server but once earned can be used on live. Not sure if there is anything else like that tho. --Drono (talk) 06:23, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Even for that case, you could just use template with an argument:
- {{Legendary Only|Although this item is usable on any server, it can only be earned on a Legendary server.}}
Legendary Server Content This article contains information about something that is only available on Legendary Servers. Access to a Legendary Server requires a VIP subscription. Although this item is usable on any server, it can only be earned on a Legendary server. |
Actions
- Deleted Template:Legendary. It was only used on a single article. Replacement is Template:Legendary Only. --Thurallor (talk) 06:04, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Updated descriptions on the Article Management Tags/Display page for Template:Stub/Outdated and Template:Obsolete, clarifying the difference. --Thurallor (talk) 06:13, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- I still don't understand the difference between Template:Expansion and Template:Stub/Outdated. Why else would a page become outdated, other than due to an expansion, update, or patch? My guess is that someone thought Template:Expansion was poorly named (correct), devised a replacement for it, and never got rid of the original. --Thurallor (talk) 06:28, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, can probably replace the couple pages that use Expansion with Outdated and remove it. --Drono (talk) 06:33, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- Will do. Regarding Template:Stub/Outdated, can we get rid of the arguments? It's unlike any other AMT, and is unnecessary, since you can just look in the history to see who added the tag. --Thurallor (talk) 06:41, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- On the other hand, this discussion suggests a possible separate use for Template:Expansion:
- Template:Stub/Outdated would used when you know something is outdated, but don't know when it became outdated.
- Template:Expansion would be used when a major expansion arrives, to tag all of the related articles and create a "work list".
- --Thurallor (talk) 06:51, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- I suggest we eliminate Template:Expansion and make a new {{Worklist|project=<x>}} template that categorizes according to the 'project' argument. --Thurallor (talk) 07:13, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, can probably replace the couple pages that use Expansion with Outdated and remove it. --Drono (talk) 06:33, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

- Template:Stub/Mob is actually just a redirect to Template:Creature Stub, so I can remove the former from the list. --Thurallor (talk) 06:59, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
