Walkthrough & Notes
You will fail the quest if you leave the Culling Pit or all fellowship members are defeated. You must battle a party of three mobs. They have auras that give others a +10% Melee Damage buff. Keep at least one away from the others and, if possible, kite the third. You call forth the enemy party by touching the Banner of the Dunlendings. Banner of the Dunlendings

'You have defeated the best that Dunland has to offer, but we are not the only ones who live in these lands.

'Isengard is the greatest power here, and now I fear your accomplishments here have awakened its wrath. Prepare yourself.

'I hope that you have brought your friends. This battle will not be easy.'

Background

The Pit in the Starkmoor serves as a proving ground for conscripts. Those strong enough to withstand it join the army in Wulf's Cleft; those too weak are sent to dig in the mines.

Objective 1

Defeat the forces from Isengard
Do not leave the Culling Pit or become defeated

The banner is on the arena floor at Avardin in the Starkmoor.

Use the banner to summon forth your first opponents, then defeat them.

Geralht says, "I did not think you would come so far... in fact -- oh!"

Geralht says, "Saruman of Many Colours, you are most welcome here."

Saruman says, "How do my Shakh-hai fare today?"

Saruman says, "Fight well, my minions. I know you will not bring shame upon Isengard this day."

White-hand Shakh-hai says, "No indeed, Master."

White-hand Shakh-hai, "These little warriors will rue the day they challenged us."

Saruman says, "I do not doubt it."

Objective 2

Talk to Geralht at the Culling Pit in Avardin
Do not leave the Culling Pit or become defeated

Geralht is at the Culling Pit in Avardin.

Geralht will be pleased to discuss your victory.

Geralht says, "Well done indeed! I do not think Saruman will be pleased that his warriors fell to contestants such as you..."

Geralht: 'I must say that I am impressed, indeed.'
