Marasrân

The Marasrân (Khuzdul for Burned) were the Burned Dwarves of Azanulbizar. After the Battle of Azanulbizar, the amount of dead dwarves were so many that the survivors decided to defy their traditions and set them on fire. The trees of the dale were cut down to make the pyres, and became deforested. The Marasrân received the highest honor and reverenace among Durin's Folk, and their descendants would carry this honor with them long after the fires were extinguished. Long after, among each of the Seven Houses, all a Dwarf needed to say about their ancestor was that they were Marasrûn, and it would elicit grave nods and murmurs of respect. Their descendants would be counted among the Kharum-ubnâr, along with any survivor of the battle.
