- This page is about Durin III, who ruled in Khazad-dûm. For other dwarves of the same name, see Durin.
Description
Durin III was King of Khazad-dûm in the Second Age, when Sauron laid waste to Eregion and the forges of the elven Ring-smiths. Durin III was by then in possession of one of the seven dwarf-rings, called Handórm or Angya, which remained with his descendants until Thráin was captured and held in the dungeons of Dol Guldur. Though Durin III did aid the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, with whom the dwarves of Khazad-dûm were close friends, the dwarves were eventually driven back into Khazad-dûm and Durin III was forced to close the gates. It was also Durin III that convened the 4th Dwarrowmoot between the Dwarven clans in the Second Age in response to the Threat of Sauron, though it proved to end without goodwill or success.
