Description

Boss from the Vaults: Thrâng, also known simply as Thrang, is a seasonal instance accessible during the Farmers Faire. To complete this instance, defeat Thrâng in the arena of Norbar and successfully defend yourselves against his mighty underlings.

This instance was inspired by the boss of the same name in the Rift of Nûrz Ghâshu, the raid in Angmar. It is similar to the original fight in many ways but also differs significantly. There is only one tier of difficulty, and the Thrâng's shield mechanic returns. However, Eimyr the Fire-giant does not appear, a Ghâshfra Defiler must be defeated before Thrâng enters the fray, and the waves of adds spawn endlessly. You will receive skirmish marks depending on the level of the instance as well as Farmers Faire Tokens and scaled jewellery from his chest for completing this instance.

The instance takes place in The Rift of Nûrz Ghâshu area of Angmar and is accessible through the Instance Finder.

Walkthrough

Scattered around the arena are fumaroles. When a player gets near one of them, it begins inducting, and upon completion it explodes, usually killing all nearby players unless they are a tank. After being destroyed, fumaroles respawn after a moderate cooldown duration. Watch out for when the fumaroles respawn: they respawn in the same location, and can induct immediately if a player is already nearby. Fumaroles can also be killed, but this is not recommended.

In phase 1, Thrang stays atop his starting platform and shoots down attacks. The tank should put a couple force taunts on Thrang so that he doesn't target the healer. Several enemies run down the platform, including a Defiler and a Scrapper. The defiler has a long yellow induction that needs to be interrupted when he activates. This phase is a DPS race to kill the defiler as fast as possible; when the defiler dies, phase 2 begins. If the defiler is alive for too long, he will cast a grey induction that needs to be FM'ed, otherwise he does a big AoE hit that may kill squishier players. The scrapper has a nasty tank debuff that reduces fire mitigations. Make sure that this debuff goes on the tank. AoE down the scrapper while killing the defiler, and kill the scrapper after the defiler dies.

In phase 2, Thrang enters the arena, but takes no damage through his shield. To remove the shield, Thrang needs to be hit by an exploding fumarole. When Thrang gains his shield, the tank should drag him to the nearest fumarole and use a cooldown to survive the explosion. Tanks should be especially careful with the first fumarole, as they will still have the fire mitigation debuff from the scrapper in phase 1. This phase is a DPS race because Thrang gradually applies a tiering bleed to the group. By the end of the fight, the healer won't be able to keep up with the bleed and players will start dying. Thrang also has an AoE knockback, so make sure your back is never to the lava in the middle of the room, or to an exploding fumarole. At the beginning of this phase, a Summoner spawns in the arena. If the group has a support class, they should keep the Summoner perma-mezzed. This is because the Summoners spawn fire-worms that have a lot of health. Scrappers will also spawn if the fight continues long enough, which increases the chance that the tank will die to the fumaroles.
