Aburûn was the first known kingdom of the Nartáni people, established in the Broad Marsh during the First Age, in the area that would later become Ambarûl. Its history is preserved primarily in the Dubarâkh Scroll, an early Second Age work transcribed in the Third Age.

History

Aburûn arose after the awakening of Men in the Broad Marsh, where they dwelt alongside Elves of the Tárthai and Kintai kindreds, and the dwarves of the Temámir clan. The Nartáni were taught agriculture and husbandry by the Kintai and lived in relative peace, venerating the marsh-spirit Írmu Who Weeps, also revered by Elves under another forgotten name.

The rulers of Aburûn bore the title of Shâr, styled in imitation of the wealthier neighboring kingdom of Hamât. Aburûn maintained close ties with the seafaring realm of Umbru-mâra, with whom they shared kinship and friendship.

This peace was broken when Khandari raiders from the north and east — armed with bronze weaponry — fell upon the Broad Marsh. The Nartáni, being largely farmers without martial traditions, were swiftly overpowered. The invaders plundered their food stores, enslaved many of their people, and cleared the forests to displace the Elves. In the aftermath, Umbru-mâra laid claim to the southern wetlands along the Ikorbân, and the kingdom of Aburûn collapsed, leaving no successor state.

Knowledge of Aburûn comes chiefly from the Dubarâkh Scroll, titled Of the Nartáni, written by Quentando in S.A. 1,405 and later transcribed by Ilûnari in T.A. 422. The scroll describes the cultural origins of the Nartáni and the fate of their first kingdom.
