Years of Joy
The Years of Joy were the golden age of the Shârate of Hamât, beginning under the reign of Aragín the Queller. Following the famine and violence of the Dire Days, these years were remembered by the Ikorbâni as a time of peace, flourishing trade, and renewed cultural exchange.[1]
Aragín’s symbolic act of breaking his sword signaled the new era, and he secured peace by forging alliances with former enemies, including Gondor. The stability of Hamât’s borders allowed for prosperity across the valley. The Road of Riches was restored, improving commerce, while the Span of Zibâla was constructed in Ambarûl, showcasing the wealth and ambition of the Shârs. Dwarves, most likely the Temámir, and elves of the Kintai once again visited the valley, drawn by its prosperity and open trade.[2]
The Years of Joy established Hamât as a major regional power and left a deep imprint on Ikorbâni memory. Their end came with the outbreak of the Madâr civil war, which fractured the Shârate and ultimately brought about its decline. Nonetheless, the era remained a touchstone for later generations, inspiring hopes of renewal, such as the modern rebellion in Imhûlar seeking to restore Hamât’s former glory.[3]
