Hello, JnK, and welcome to LotRO-Wiki, the Lord of the Rings Online Wiki! Some useful pointers:
We hope you enjoy editing here!

Thanks for all your work on those Ost Dunhoth sets recently! Those red links all over the place were driving me crazy, so it's good to see someone updating them. If you get a chance, take a look at this revision to see how you can update the template to look more like the game's view. This was a fairly recent development that I don't think was really documented anywhere, but it might help to explain why so many older sets look squished together. Keep up the good work and check with Goingbald or me if you have any questions! Sethladan 13:27, 3 January 2012 (EST)
- Hey, great work on all those sets! A tip: check "what links here" before renaming/changing around sets that were renamed. The pages that link to the old page name should probably link to the new page instead, and that needs to be changed manually (saw this was broken with the OD RK-set page that used to be the name of the LM set). For the rest, keep up the good work! --Ravanel (talk) 10:37, 6 January 2012 (EST)

Locations versus Instances
First of all a big thanks for your great submissions, they are appreciated.
When it comes to instances we sometimes run into the problem of which kind of page to create; a page for a location? or a page for an instance? Sometimes they overlap so that an instance takes place where there also is a landmark or settlement. When they do not, how to do? But first, what is the difference?
For the difference you may wish to have a look at Create new location and notice that there are some requirements for "locations". Perhaps sometimes a bit too strict and we use to handle that from case to case. Just remember that geography is not exactly the same as instances ;) And as said, sometimes we need to handle it in a fair way.
We have discussed several times how to handle instances that do not qualify for also having a location page. But remember, it is not always interesting to have any geography data on a location page, they do not exactly serve the same purpose, one is more for strategy and preparations while the other tells what services it provides and maybe some lore. I do not know how the instance-discussions have proceeded but unless an instance is also "a recognized location" in the world it should not use any of the geography features, such as navigation boxes or landmark templates. Probably it would be better to gather some guys and figuring out how to handle these, and how to handle when the two kinds coincide.
Best wishes ---- Zimoon 17:34, 15 January 2012 (EST)
- Ahh, noted. Though if that be the case (that such matters are still being figured out), I'll probably just avoid wading into that quagmire altogether. Let those who trifle over how to classify things figure these things out. Similarly, while deeds very much do have levels assigned to them in the game system, if that information isn't typically listed here, so be it.
- You may very well add the page as such, they looked very informative and are great to have. Just add them to category "Instances". Oooh, sorry, I must have been tired .. about deeds, sorry again. Zimoon 01:46, 16 January 2012 (EST)
Fashion Pictures
Hey there. I wanted to thank you for your nice clothing screenshots: great shots and amazing quality! We usually post them a bit smaller on the item pages though (~400px for the broad ones), so they don't obstruct the view. If people want to see the details they can see the big version. Example: [1]. For the rest, keep up the good job! --Ravanel (talk) 08:00, 25 January 2012 (EST)
- I've been admiring your cosmetic images, and I see I'm not the first to notice! Is there a particular skin you use for the nice dark blue background? -- Elinnea (talk) 19:03, 18 May 2012 (EDT)
Mob Pictures
I wanted to add that you're great at capturing mobs in action. I just didn't want you to be offended that I'm making some changes - I've been going back and color-correcting them because the details are hard to see. But color-correcting is easy, and getting nice shots (without names, selection circles, and so on) like you're getting is hard. So as Rav said...keep up the good work! -Adelas (talk) 15:49, 18 February 2012 (EST)
- After going through your contributions for this week, let me just say again... your action shots are AMAZING. I am loving some of these Avanc shots, especially! Do you have any tips? I always end up getting things set up just the right way, and then the creatures crowd my space so I have to back off... rinse, repeat until my morale starts getting low... (I'm a squishy minstrel). Anyhow, I try and try and just can't get shots like that. Kudos! -Adelas (talk) 16:24, 18 February 2012 (EST)
- Certainly! I've mostly been using my Hunter and Champion for it, since they're my highest-leveled. My champ has the durability to stick it out while I try to get a decent shot, but my hunter can often hold her own fairly well. It doesn't always work out, and in those cases I let the creature respawn and try again.
- One thing that comes in handy is snares and stuns and fears and such. With all the effects turned off, it means the mob can be stuck in place for a bit without showing a big red bear-trap on their leg or a swirly cloud over their head, which can be nice for getting sidelong shots. At the same time, disrupting the mob by dazing it or sending it running away gives that moment to position, and sometimes you can catch them just as they return or come out of it. In the case of those on-level Avancs especially, it was easier to grab their picture as they caught back up to me than to sit through multiple poison-tooth effects. It works well for archers too - disrupting them lets me jog away, and wait until they go into a ranged induction, then run up and snap their picture while they have their bow in hand.
- Another thing is targeting. If I hit F1 to target myself, it keeps the focus off the creature to avoid the targeting ring. The extra illumination they normally get as an active target can still be generated by hovering the cursor over them without selecting them. Often that keeps them from fading into the background, but in dark areas or places with strong ambient colors, they still need some tweaking.
- Those are some amazing portraits you uploaded for the Morroval-outcasts mobs. RingTailCat (talk) 21:07, 22 February 2012 (EST)
- I cannot by concur and chime into the choir of praise!!! Zimoon 04:12, 23 February 2012 (EST)
The Great River Creatures
Looks like you've been busy on Bullroarer!
I just finished creating categories for all the Great River areas -- Category:The Great River Creatures. "Location" for the KoLM creature pages can now be identified by the area in the Great River region. I went through all of the creatures in the Category:Stubs/Beta so they now all wind up in the correct areas. (I think).
- Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 03:07, 8 March 2012 (EST)
- Hey JnK. I noticed you've been really busy on Great River creatures, awesome job! The pictures are of a lovely quality. I've also noticed, however, that you've been categorizing them incorrectly. Under "Location" in the template you should enter the region name, not the area name. This is because some creatures occur in multiple areas, and all the other creatures on the wiki are done this way. We try to keep things consistent, because they otherwise confuse other contributors and readers. It would be great if you could use the region instead from now on. Cheers! --Ravanel (talk) 15:26, 20 March 2012 (EDT)
- Duly noted. That's what I was doing originally, as I had been working on Dunland mobs and noticed that methodology. As you can see above, however, other editors revised the locations to the area, so I'd been going by that since. Given as the only creatures to feature in multiple areas are some of the Khundolar, it didn't seem like much of an issue.
- No worries, I'll pop him a message as well. --Ravanel (talk) 05:57, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
- Fixed the categories (although it was a bit of a spoiler, I have not been that far into the Great River area myself). Another tip: check Help:Creatures if you're not certain about how something regarding creatures should be done, it's up to date! You can also add yourself to the project page Lotro-Wiki.com:Creatures. You certainly belong there after all the work you've done!
- Lastly, if you plan on perfecting the Great River creatures, the following categories can be of help:
- Category:The Great River Mob Stubs - Showing Great River creatures missing LM inspect information
- Category:The Great River Mobs Needing an Image - Showing Great River creatures that still need an image taken
- Keep up the good work! --Ravanel (talk) 06:42, 21 March 2012 (EDT)
just curious
I like the descriptions you added to Wailing Hills Explorer -- the question is, Where did you find them? And then naturally, can they be added to the other "Explorer" deeds? Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 13:31, 13 March 2012 (EDT)
- They're from the deed log - as the various landmarks are discovered, the seal next to their listing turns red, and hovering over it usually gives a little blurb about it. Most explorer deeds have these, though some have a generic one shared across the set. Still, yeah, shouldn't be too hard to transcribe them for other deeds. :) JnK (talk) 14:43, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

Mount Names
I notice you're adding in the default names for mounts. I think that's a great thing to do, but I'm curious: where are you getting the names from? Are they all from horses/ponies/goats that you have? -- Elinnea (talk) 11:46, 29 May 2012 (EDT)
- Ayup, mounts I have in the live game, or on Bullroarer (in the case of the PvMP mounts). -- JnK (talk) 12:07, 29 May 2012 (EDT)
- Nice, thanks. I have a friend who's trying to collect the default names of all the mounts in the game, so I'll have a look to see if you've filled in any that she's still missing. -- Elinnea (talk) 12:10, 29 May 2012 (EDT)
- No problem at all, it's a good tidbit to include in the wiki's mount pages. Besides, I've never really bothered to change the names of my mounts, because they usually add a bit of character to each horse. That and there's just far too many of them to go renaming every single one. :p

Infobox Mounts
Hey there! Could you take a look at Template:Infobox Mounts? It's designed to replace all those tables on the Mounts page, make them easier to update, keep things nice and organized and display additional information for each steed should we wish to show that. Any feedback or suggestions you can offer for its implementation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Neum (talk) 05:39, 6 September 2012 (EDT)

Drastic changes in B6 to Basic War-steed speed
From the B6 tool-tips
Light: 5.5 mps base Max Speed Medium: 5 mps base Max Speed Heavy: 4.5 mps base Max Speed
All the other values are unchanged. Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 23:43, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'm seeing that too. However, I'm not too sure we should trust those. I tested out each weight as close to untraited as I could get to confirm the changes, because that seems a bit steep a drop to go unmentioned otherwise. In each case their max speed ended up right where it is in the current pages - Light at 12, Medium at 11.5, and Heavy at 11.

Mordirith
Part of me like what you did to Mordirith---it is a lot nicer than having a plain disambiguation page---and part of me hesitates ... I don't know if I consider him a combat-NPC or a mob. No matter that, did you plan to fix all links that now refer to the Mordirith page but they should rather link to any of his other pages?
Click "what-links-here" and see there are all sorts of links which should be redirected. To Mordirith should only go "generic" links, unbound to looted items, quests, or whatever else. That is a reason why it takes me forever to walk through all of those mobs which should be moved to location specific names, it takes quite a while to check out all of those crazy links ;-)
-- Zimoon 16:00, 6 December 2012 (EST)
- Indeed, he's kind of like the rangers or the characters from the books. He isn't just one mob that appears in an instance to be defeated, or one NPC that we deal with in a single town. He's a fairly significant character with multiple appearances, including multiple combat versions. The Carn Dum fellowship instance vs. the last Epic instance, for example - not only does he change appearance, but level and grade and in one he's parked atop a fell-beast.
- In cases like this, where it's a character with a significant role, and especially if it's one who moves around, I think the centralized page on the character serves as a solid foundation. With rangers and other allied NPCs, we've taken to setting up divisions on the page for each major location they appear in, which can be used to organize batches of quest involvement and changes to appearance, and avoids us having ten dozen pages with little significant information.
- In the case of major antagonists, having separate pages for particular combat versions isn't so bad, as it lets us present the combat stats, abilities, and loot for each iteration. Any page with a combat stats section tends to end up dominated by it, as all information gets pushed down below. Trying to pack four or five of these into a single page becomes problematic, if only for the sheer length.
- At any rate, yes, I do intend to fix the links, and to try to add more about Mordirith when I can think of it. For the time being, the worst this does is add an intermediary step, as all the combat versions are linked on the page (thus they aren't completely broken). We also need to get the scans for the new pages, but if nothing else I can work on that over the holidays.
Relics from Silver Sutcroft Box
Hi, JnK! I've been updating the new names of a bunch of relics, and I saw you'd added Item:Sealed Platinum Setting of the Bulwark and Item:Sealed Platinum Setting of Hardiness to the Item:Silver Box of Sutcrofts Spoils back in October. Are you certain those are the relics you got? Because they're both actually from way back before Update 5, when they completely redid the relic system and made it so you could meld your own/added shards, etc..
In any case, I removed them from the list of rewards, because if they were the right ones, they must have been a bug, and I don't know if they still drop from the box. Just wanted to let you know. :)
-Kadi (talk) 18:18, 28 March 2013 (EDT)
- Yes, I'm quite sure on that. The names are long and among many such long-named relics, so I was doubly cautious to get them correct. Even went so far as to deconstruct them to make sure it wasn't just an erroneously named sealed box that gave something else. Given the various things that drop out of those boxes, otherwise common relics aren't that unusual. The relic drops were fairly rare, and I only saw a handful over the course of about three months, when I was doing warbands daily.
- While I will caution you about making such assumptions, it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that it was a bug, or that they were removed from the loot tables in the meantime. If someone else runs across them again in the future, they can always be added back.
- It was a bug, I remember Sapience posting about it. Update 9, Against the Shadow - December 17, 2012#Items - Eggolass (talk) 21:32, 28 March 2013 (EDT)

Dunland Cosmetic Page issues- Assorted (Crell)
Trying to get a feel for this. In general (Gold Indicates something that could be bartered for with silver such as Dunland or Theodred's Rep pieces Teal indicates something that probably needs to moved. (ex: Ornamented Dunlending Surcoat seems to belong as a 'champion' equivalent piece, not in Guardian) Red, on an actual piece of gear, not the name of a slot indicates that something's probably amiss which warrants further attention (A medium piece in a heavy set.) There's obviously some information that's only relevant to my attempt to sort out which pieces I still have lying around in storage, that can be safely ignored.
Removed the HTTP in the hopes of dealing with the anti-spam issue. docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmY9adh17pCXdFk0OUNfWlJ1bjJOdEpNbjN2cXJxMVE&usp=sharing Crell (talk) 16:30, 28 May 2013 (EDT)
- I've addressed the highlighted issues for the most part, and double-checked the following pieces in-game:
- Ornamented Dunlending Surcoat uses the Champion equivalent icon, but the actual appearance is the Guardian equivalent.
- Dunland Caretaker's Patched Mantle appears to be in the correct place.
- This was the piece I was most sure was wrong. If you wear it with the chest piece, you'll note obvious clipping issues as viewed from the front that doesn't match the photo on the armor sets page.. I'll double check the rest when I get a chance Crell (talk) 21:24, 29 May 2013 (EDT)
- I notice that all of the armor pieces previews on the page appear to be on Humans, including the Runekeeper which is a Dwarf/Elf class. I'd be surprised if this wasn't the cause of the appearant mismatch. Sadly I don't have any elves up that high and my wardrobe is over-flowing. I did my preview on a Dwarf. Crell (talk) 21:17, 30 May 2013 (EDT)
- Burnished Dunlending Chain Boots use the Thief icon, are Medium armor, but do indeed use the Guardian appearance.
- The following Captain pieces use Champion icons but have the right Captain appearance:
Experience points
Thanks for the bar...
Does the explanation make sense? I think the information is as correct as it is possible to be with the limited information provided by Turbine. Just don't know if anybody but me can understand my rhetoric.
Class icons
Heya. I noticed that the class icons have been changed in-game and the wiki is out of date. I wanted to upload the new ones to the wiki, but noticed they are of much lower resolution than the old ones (that are currently found in here: Category:Class Icons). The only place where I can find the new class icons in game is when hovering over the class in the friends or /who window. As you uploaded the currently used icons with pristine quality, I was wondering if I'm missing where to look. Where did you get the icons from back then? --Ravanel (talk) 20:42, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
