~ The whirlwind from Staddle ~
So as you have already noticed, I was born in Stock. But I was not there for a long time. Just under a year after my birth, my parents moved to Staddle. Grandma Seburga always claims that it was because of the Bucklander who always came to Stock. But I think it was rather because we lived in the Smial of Mamas parents and it was very narrow there. Besides, Dad always wanted to move back to his relatives. And after Grandpa Fredebald drowned in the accident in the Midgewater Marshes, Grandma Seburga moved to her uncle's smial in Bree. Now the family smial in Staddle was empty. That's why we moved there. There was much more space and Dad no longer felt watched over by Granny Krummbein all day.
Staddle is beautiful! I know that, I grew up there. You can fish wonderfully at the pond and in summer, when it's too hot, you can even splash around in the water. Twiens can run and play in the hills around Stadel, and it's only a half-hour walk to the market in Bree. Bree. When I was little, we only went to Bree two or three times a year, on market days. Mom didn't want us to run into the long ones that often. She always said they were a bad influence on little hobbits. But now we live in Bree ourselves, that is, my sister and me. We live with Grandma Seburga, who has a really big Smial and doesn't like to be alone. Now, of course, we meet up with the long ones more often. But I usually avoid them. The ones from the city guard are especially scary. They always scold us when we scurry around on the roofs. When I have to hide from them, my sister usually fetches me for dinner. And then she claims that I got lost. What nonsense! I've been to places in Bree she doesn't even know! That's how it is, yes!
Cousin Sebylla has also been living with us for a few months. She comes from the Shire and is the daughter of Dad's brother. I like Sebylla. Playing music with her is even more fun than just playing music at home and she doesn't scold me when I ›get lost‹ again in Bree. And she is really grown up now!
Oh yes, the Silver Thistles are no longer a quartet at all. And we are not an all-girl group anymore, since my ... our dad regularly takes part in the performances. But he can tell that himself.
And don't forget, when you walk through Bree, to look up from time to time. You might see me on one of the rooftops.
