- This page is about Thráin II, father of Thorin Oakenshield. For Thráin I, first King Under the Mountain, see Thráin I.
Description
A Dwarven king, Thráin II, is the son of Thrór and father of Thorin Oakenshield, Frerin, and Dís. A Longbeard and direct descendant of Durin, he became heir of the throne of Erebor, lost when Smaug attacked, and King of Durin's Folk in exile as Thráin II after his father was killed by Azog at Moria. Thráin called together a great reckoning-host of all the Seven Houses, the Haban'akkâ, and waged a war of vengeance against Azog and his folk. He was also the last keeper of the seventh dwarf-ring, which was taken from him years later in the dungeons of Dol Guldur. Thráin and the other exiles of Erebor made homes for themselves first in Dunland, at Zudrugund, and later in the Blue Mountains, at Thorin's Hall, and though these holdings never grew to rival Erebor or their other lost kingdoms, they did well for themselves in time.
