Dior (Sindarin for Successor) served as the 9th ruling Steward of Gondor, his rule lasting from 2412 until his death in 2435.
Dior's time as Steward took place during the Watchful Peace (TA 2063 – TA2460), and his was the last period where this was the case. He held the office for twenty-three years. He died childless, and thus the role as ruling steward passed to his nephew Denethor I through the line of Dior's sister, though Denethor is named as Dior's son on his statue.
He was likely named after Dior son of Beren and Lúthien, the half-elven prince of Doriath from the First Age.
