Walkthrough & Notes

After you speak to Melethron, Thinnas, or Camlann and enter combat with him, you must defeat him to advance the quest. If you leave combat without defeating him, he may not reset properly, so that you cannot speak to him again to re-enter combat. When that happens, you may have to cancel the quest, wait 5 minutes, and take it again. The quest giver, Medwine, may have moved to Idmar's Camp by that time. In order to "even the odds" you may need to defeat the normal Oathbreakers around the signature Oathbreaker before speaking with the signature one. The signature Oathbreakers seem to respawn more quickly than the normal Oathbreakers. Be wary if other players are doing the same quest, to avoid normals respawning in aggro range while you combat the signature Oathbreaker. Melethron is in the Northern Camp at [27.3S, 56.3W] Thinnas is in the Eastern Camp at [28.6S, 56.2W] Camlann is in the Western Camp at [28.2S, 58.1W]

Quest Text

Bestowal dialogue 'Every attempt I have made to converse with these Oathbreakers has ended in violence. These men must have committed some sort of treacherous crime; elsewise, they would not have returned. 'Most have nothing coherent to say, but I have heard the whispers of three names...Melethron, Thinnas, and Camlann. Perhaps they may have insight as to why their men have returned. 'I have never been able to get close enough to speak to them, so you will probably have to fight your way to them. Be careful.' Background Medwine has attempted to converse with several of the Oathbreakers in the newly-risen force. However, he has only been met with violence. Objective 1 Confront and defeat Melethron Melethron is at the northern Oathbreaker camp among his fallen men. Idmar asked you to speak with the shade of Melethron. Medwine: 'Speak with the Oathbreakers, <name>, and learn what it is that they want....' Melethron: As you acquire the Oathbreaker's attention, he glares in your direction. 'Another? Why will you not leave us be?' Melethron's face contorts into a rage. Melethron says, "The might of Gondor shall fall upon you!" Defeated Melethron Objective 2 Confront and defeat Thinnas Thinnas is at the eastern camp of Oathbreakers near the Rushgore. Idmar has asked you to speak with the shade of Thinnas. Medwine: 'Speak with the Oathbreakers, <name>, and learn what it is that they want....' Thinnas: Upon noticing you, the Oathbreaker appears puzzled. 'I am Thinnas, captain of the eastern front. What purpose do you have, coming here? You question the Oathbreaker about his curse. We did not think anyone would find out. But lord Cirion did...and he made certain we would never forget what we had done. 'What need have you for this? Do you only seek to torment us more?' Thinnas says, "There is no hope for us...only agony!" Defeated Thinnas Objective 3 Confront and defeat Camlann Camlann is at the western camp of Oathbreakers near the border to Eorlsmead. Idmar asked you to speak with the shade of Camlann. Medwine: 'Speak with the Oathbreakers, <name>, and learn what it is that they want....' Camlann: As you approach Camlann, he looks visibly upset. 'You have invaded our lands and slaughtered my men, and yet, you expect me to speak with you? 'The frivolity of your charge is matched only by your foolishness. The fate that befell us is ours alone to face.' Camlann says, "What right have you to dishonour the dead?" Defeated Camlann Objective 4 Talk to Idmar Idmar is at his camp along the road in central Parth Celebrant. You should return to Idmar with news of your dealings with the maddened shades. Medwine: 'You should return now to Idmar' Idmar: 'I take it your dealings with the Oathbreakers did not go well? 'Yet, one mentioned Cirion? These men must have fought for Gondor at the Battle of the Field of Celebrant. Long ago, our forebear, Eorl, led Cirion to victory after arriving to save his forces from an onslaught of terrible Easterlings. It was a glorious moment in our past and paved the way for the formation of Rohan. 'But how did these men come to be cursed? That battle was won, and Gondor was saved.... 'Here, take this, I think we may need to approach this differently now.'
