Bestowal dialogue
'I received word that Derwent Bindweed has run into another spot of trouble, <name>. Now, I don't much care, having my own concerns, but as an up-and-coming Brawler you should really do what you can to improve your own reputation among the people of Bree-land.
'It seems Derwent set out looking for a new home for his family after you stood up to Bill Ferny's ruffians, but the town in which he stopped is perhaps even more dangerous than the one he left! Why don't you go check on him and see if you can help? I fear he might have bit off more than he can chew....'
Brom coughs suddenly.
'Fear? Did I say fear? Bah! Brom Hawksbeard fears nothing! I just meant Derwent might be afraid, and could use a strong Brawler to help him get settled! Seek him out at the town of Stoneheight, <name>, in the North Downs. I understand you can follow a sloping path north-east of Amon Raith, along the curve of the mountains, right to the town. Once again, making good use of your brawling abilities is the only way to improve them! Surely you want to one day equal my own skill, do you not?'
Background
Brom Hawksbeard likes to portray himself as a tough Brawler with few cares, but the more you work with him the more you realize his gruff exterior is mostly an act.
Objective 1
- Talk to Derwent Bindweed outside the town of Stoneheight
Derwent Bindweed is outside the town of Stoneheight, north-east of Amon Raith in the North Downs.
- Derwent Bindweed: 'Brom Hawksbeard sent you to me? That was very kind of him, <name>, but he's wrong: I am not in any trouble at all, and I am quite enjoying my new home here in Stoneheight!
- 'And if my neighbors have any needs or concerns at all, I am more than prepared to do my part to set things a-rigth here in Stoneheight; I pulled my weight at Thornley's Work for weeks. Were I still there it would no doubt be finished by now! But Bill Ferny and his ruffians saw to that, didn't they?
- 'So there's no trouble hereabout, but if you are ineterested I could give you a tour of the town. It's the least, I can do, my brawling friend!
Objective 2
Derwent Bindweed is outside the town of Stoneheight, at Annúndir in the North Downs.
- Derwent Bindweed: 'Right this way my friend! While we walk, you can tell me why Brom thinks Stoneheight is a place of danger... it seems peaceable to me!
- This is a Solo quest, and cannot be completed with a Fellowship.
Objective 3
- Talk to Derwent Bindweed in Stoneheight
Derwent Bindweed is in the town of Stoneheight in the North Downs.
- 'That's two I owe you, my friend! Either trouble follows a Brawler close behind, or you have a knack for finding it! Whichever might be the truth, I am glad you were here! But what will I do if Bill Ferny learns that his Orc-friends were unsuccessful? I cannot keep cowering whenever a fight breaks out...
- 'Perhaps I will take up the fighting style you demonstrated, <name>, and seek to train the folk of Stoneheight in the brawling arts. It could be that Rose and Ned will take to it, and become natural Brawlers in their own right! I begin to wonder if Brom Hawksbeard was right about this town, and we may need skills such as yours to defend ourselves!
- 'Thank you again, <name>, and convey my gratitude to Brom as well! We are lucky you were here! When next I see you, perhaps we will be a brawling pair that fears neither Orc-swords nor the underhanded schemes of villains such as Bill Ferny!
Objective 4
- Talk to Brom Hawksbeard in the Bree Jail
Brom Hawksbeard is in the Bree Jail.
- Brom Hawksbeard: 'Derwent and his family are faring well in Stoneheight? Very good. I was not really concerned, but if you were going up there anyway...
- You tell Brom that you weren't actually going to Stoneheight already, and you only journeyed there on his recommendation.
- 'Yes, well, you must have been worried about him all the same. At any rate, I have a reward for you. May it help you in whatever brawls lie ahead, whether they be in service of the helpless... or just for fun.
