The Rite Undone
"It was not long after the Iron Crown returned to Carn Dûm that the Trév Duvárdain and their chieftain, Claghórd, began to trouble us once again. In mere days, the Stone of Clúcath was seized, the challenge was called, and we of the Trév Gállorg had no choice but to answer it...."

Background

With the return of the Iron Crown and its loyalists among the now-splintered Trév Duvárdain to Carn Dûm, a tenuous peace was broken and old foes of the Trév Gállorg sought new dominion over Angmar.

Objective 1

Nekhtan has offered to recount the tale of the rite of Clúcath.

You should talk to Nekhtan.

Nekhtan: 'It is tradition that Clúcath is held at Fail-á-Khro. There, atop that hill and within sight of the Cairn of Honour, countless rites have been held through the long years of Angmar.
'After the Trév Duvárdain took the Stone of Clúcath from the Cairn of Honour, it was our duty to answer their challenge, and so we did. Crannog called upon us - his mightiest warriors - to accompany him to Fail-á-Khro.
'With our blades honed and our provisions for the journey prepared, we set out from Aughaire.'

Objective 2

  • Listen to Nekhtan's tale of the rite of Clúcath

Nekhtan is recounting the events of the rite of Clúcath between the Trév Gállorg and the Trév Duvárdain.

Nekhtan says, "And so, Crannog led us to Fail-á-Khro to meet the Trév Duvárdain in Clúcath."
Nekhtan says, "Leading the Trév Duvárdain was their chieftain, Claghórd."
Nekhtan says, "It was said that Domongart, their chieftain of old, had been cast out."
Nekhtan says, "Whatever the reason for Domongart's exile, the Trév Duvárdain who now followed Claghórd remained faithful servants of the Iron Crown."
Nekhtan says, "After a long silence, Claghórd spoke and offered his terms for Clúcath."
Nekhtan says, "A single warrior and the old laws of mercy upheld."
Nekhtan says, "Although I doubted something in Claghórd's words, Crannog accepted."
Nekhtan says, "I stepped forward to fight for the Trév Gállorg and awaited Crannog's command."
Nekhtan says, "A man named Sácharth crept forward and begged to fight for the Trév Duvárdain."
Nekhtan says, "I was to fight against Sácharth, or so I thought."
Nekhtan says, "As if in answer, Claghórd himself stepped forward, passing Sácharth without a word."
Nekhtan says, "In truth, Claghórd had chosen to fight for the Trév Duvárdain long before he arrived at Fail-á-Khro."
Nekhtan says, "And again, without a word, he had also chosen who would fight for the Trév Gállorg..."
Nekhtan says, "Crannog."
Nekhtan says, "For a chieftain to shrink from another chieftain's challenge would be unthinkable."
Nekhtan says, "But Claghórd was a younger man by far, and he knew what this would mean for the coming fight."
Nekhtan says, "And so, the rite of Clúcath began."
Nekhtan says, "Crannog fought well, but it was not long before he was forced to yield."
Nekhtan says, "Even though they had held to the tenets of the rite, Claghórd had acted beneath the dignity of a chieftain."
Nekhtan says, "But it did not matter. The Trév Duvárdain were victorious."
Nekhtan says, "Never had I imagined that a man worse than Domongart could lead the Trév Duvárdain."
Nekhtan says, "I was wrong."

Objective 3

  • Talk to Nehktan

Nekhtan has concluded the tale of the rite of Clúcath.

You should talk to Nekhtan.

Nekhtan: 'After Clúcath was ended, we had no choice but to return to Aughaire. What else could we do?
'Few spoke on the journey home, and I think we all feared what might befall us in the days that followed.
'But nothing happened. Perhaps we had been mistaken, I thought.'
Nekhtan: 'If only that was the end of the tale...'
