Bestowal dialogue

"Elder Riagán has welcomed you to Lhan Tarren and invited you to join in the Feast of the Running Stag, the Stag Clan's annual ritual. You should join your friends at the feast and respectfully observe the rites."

Background

You have arrived at Lhan Tarren as the Feast of the Running Stag began and have been invited to join the Stag-clan for the evening.

Objective 1

The Feast of the Running Stag is about to begin.

Elain: 'Good evening to you! You are just in time -- the Elder is still preparing, but the clan has gathered already.
'Come, follow me! This is the most important night of the year for my people.'
Elain says, "The Elder will come out to speak soon."
This looks like a good place to sit and watch

Objective 2

  • Join the Stag-clansmen and observe the rites

You should perform the /sit emote near the bonfire to observe the Festival.

Clansman says, "This is always such a boring night!."
Elain says, "Oh, it is not, Ithel! Hush."
You sit with Elain.

Objective 3

  • Observe the ritual as it unfolds

The Feast of the Running Stag has begun.

Elain says, "Ah, the mountain-folk have arrived."
Elain says, "But where is the family from the southern farm? They are missing...."
Clansman says, "How long will the Elder ramble on before the feast starts?"
Elain says, "Come now. There is wisdom in these rites."
Clansman says, "Elain will probably sleep through it too, ha!"
Elain says, "The Elder comes. Show some respect!"
Elder Riagán says, "Ahem."

Objective 4

  • Observe the ritual as it unfolds

You should observe the Feast of the Running Stag.

Elder Riagán says, "Welcome, my kin, to the Feast of the Running Stag."
Elder Riagán says, "As many of you know, we gather each year to share our history...."
Elder Riagán says, "It is a sad history."
Elder Riagán says, "It is a history that none should forget, not until the last of us is dead."
Clanswoman says, "Is it time to eat yet?"
Elain says, "Be silent, Carus."
Elder Riagán says, "Honoured guest, will you fetch me the ritual crown? It is at my door."
The Elder has asked you to fetch the crown

Objective 5

  • Bring the Elder what he asks for

The Elder's ritual crown can be found at the doorway from which he entered.

You should collect the crown and carry it carefully to the Elder.

The Elder smiles at you as you place the crown at his feet
Elder Riagán says, "Thank you, <name>."
Elder Riagán says, "This crown is for the kingdom...for the king that has forsaken Dunland."
Elder Riagán says, "It is for the children of this land who have been abandoned by Gondor."
Elder Riagán says, "Never forget the king whose laws forsook us..."
Elder Riagán says, "...For we are free. Forsaken and free."
Clansman says, "And bored."
Elder Riagán says, "<name>, will you fetch me the horse-tail now?"

Objective 6

  • Bring the Elder what he asks for

The Elder's ritual horse-tail can be found at the doorway from which he entered.

You should collect the horse-tail and carry it carefully to the Elder when he is done speaking.

You have placed the horse-tail at the Elder's feet
Elder Riagán says, "Ah, here it is. Thank you again."
Elder Riagán says, "My old eyes no longer see well."
Elder Riagán says, "This horse-tail is for Rohan, the land of usurpers."
Elder Riagán says, "The Horse-lords are our bitter enemies, and they drove us from our rightful lands."
Elder Riagán says, "Someday, the lands must belong to the Dunlendings again."
Elder Riagán says, "Never, ever forget our rightful home."
Elder Riagán says, "And one last favour, <name>. The spear."

Objective 7

  • Bring the Elder what he asks for

The Elder's ritual spear can be found at the doorway from which he entered.

You should collect the spear and carry it carefully to the Elder when he is done speaking.

You have brought the Elder the final piece of the ritual set
Elder Riagán says, "Thank you, kind one."
Elain says, "Ah, poor Elder. This part of the ritual always rouses his sadness."
Elder Riagán says, "This is a spear of the Dragon-clan."
Elder Riagán says, "It slew my son, who should have been a leader after me."
Elain says, "Look! There is Guto. I knew he would come."
Elder Riagán says, "My grandson's father's blood still stains its tip."
Elder Riagán says, "With this spear, we remember that our own people have turned on us."
Elder Riagán says, "We remember that Dunland is not one people with a common cause."
Elder Riagán says, "We remember that our own brother clans chased us to the edge of Dunland..."
Elder Riagán says, "...Where we settled in peace in Trum Dreng, the land that nobody wanted."
Elder Riagán says, "Never forget how we came here, even though you were not born to witness it."
Guto says, "Grandfather."
Elder Riagán says, "What is it, Guto?"
Guto says, "Grandfather, a crow has returned, but it is injured."

Objective 8

  • Listen to the Elder

The Feast of the Running Stag continues.

Craban: The crow's wing appears twisted, as if someone attempted to break it cruelly. The message it bore is still attached to its leg.
You recognize at once that this was the crow you sent tothe southern farm. Something very unfriendly intercepted this poor bird.
It is clear that the farmer's family never received this summons.
The crow was intercepted before it could reach the farm in the south
Elder Riagán says, "Oh dear, <name>...."
Guto says, "You see, Grandfather? There are more pressing matters than festivals."
Elder Riagán says, "When you are chief, Guto, you will be free to ignore all the festivals you like."
Elder Riagán says, "But as far as I can tell, I am not yet dead!"
Elder Riagán says, "So until I am, you will show respect for our traditions."

Objective 9

  • Listen to the Elder

The Elder has called an early end to the Feast of the Running Stag this year, due to likely danger in the south where some of his people live.

Elder Riagán says, "I am sorry, my people, but there might be some danger to the south. I am calling an early end to the Festival."
Elder Riagán says, "You may take food from the feast and return to your huts for now...."
The Feast of the Running Stag has been disrupted by the ill omen....

Objective 10

  • Talk to Elain

Elain is at the Feast of the Running Stag

You should speak with Elain about the injured crow and the missing southern family.

Elain: 'This is very unsettling. The poor bird tried to land, but unfriendly hands did not receive it. We will surely scout at first light.
'You heard the Elder, <name> -- our festival is at an end. You should take some food and rest, for you have earned it.
Elain: 'We should leave, <name>. I will talk to you again before I go to scout the farm.'
