The place to look lies a few yards behind Legolas - You can access the fortifications on either side of the Deeping stream; Barrels of Arrows are found on both sides. Barrels of Arrows are found at ^{[60.9S, 88.0W]}, ^{[60.8S, 88.7W]}, ^{[60.8S, 89.1W]}, ^{[61.0S, 89.3W]}, and ^{[61.0S, 89.7W]}

Quest Text

Bestowal Dialogue

'I am glad to see you again, <name>, even at this dark hour. Have you seen what marches forth across the plains? This will be a fell night indeed. Will Rohan fall?'

Legolas looks out northward, his keen eyes searching long the plains of the Westfold. You should look for yourself.

Background

Legolas has seen the approach of the great host of Isengard, and wishes for you to look to the defences of the men stationed at the gate to Helm's Deep.

Objective 1

Look northward from a vantage point atop the cliff wall

Legolas stands at Helm's Dike, his gaze cast northward.

You should look to the north to get a look at the troubled plains.

This is a good place to look

You see a creeping darkness, and smoke of the burning waste left by the marching enemy. The destruction is vast indeed.

Objective 2

Speak with Legolas about what you saw

Legolas stands with the King's host at Helm's Gate.

You should return and speak with Legolas.

Legolas: 'Alas for the fair men and women of Rohan! Saruman's wrath approaches swiftly. You saw it too.

'It seems that Erkenbrand has left many archers to man the wall. I wonder how soon their arrows will be spent.'

Objective 3

Count barrels of arrows stored at Helm's Gate

Barrels of arrows can be found lining the wall at Helm's Gate.

You should count the barrels to see if the archers at Helm's Dike have enough arrows to defend Helm's Deep.

Objective 4

Return to Legolas

Legolas stands at Helm's Gate.

You should return and speak with Legolas.

Legolas: 'Erkenbrand has left these men well-stocked, but it will not be enough. Perhaps the first line of enemy soldiers will fall, but more will take their place, and they will crash upon the Hornburg like the sea on a castle of sand.
