Walkthrough & Notes

For this quest, take the road south out of Underharrow to the fork in the road and turn left (east). Go up the path into the hills, following the switchbacks until you come to Dunharrow. On the north side of the valley, there is a path that leads higher up into the hills overlooking Dunharrow. Atop another switchback, is a cave called Gurz-shâpol at 69.6S, 71.8W. Upon nearing the cave, you'll see the notice: 'You have found a passage into the heart of the White Mountains' The quest will advance to the next objective, which is to explore the cave. After going a short distance into the cave, you'll see the notice: 'You see one of the Orcs keeping watch in the distance' and an automatic bestowal quest Splitting Skulls will become available. The quest will advance again to the next objective, which is to explore deeper into the cave. You'll soon encounter a Rashat-hai Black-arrow and a Rashat-hai Warrior. After defeating them and traveling a little further into the cave, you'll see the following notice: 'The screams of Rohirrim pierce the air as you press onward' and another automatic bestowal quest Kept By The Dead will become available. The quest will advance again to the next objective, which is to explore deeper into the cave. After traveling a little further into the cave, you'll encounter a larger room with several Orcs in it. Upon entering the room, you'll see the following notice: 'Crude banners wave in the dank air of Gurz-shâpol' and another automatic bestowal quest Blown on an Ill Wind will become available. The quest will advance again to the next objective, which is to explore deeper into the cave. After you move through the first room and kill several Orcs, you'll come upon a second room. Upon entering the room, you'll see the following notice: 'While exploring, you spot athelas growing on the cave floor' and another automatic bestowal quest In Death's Shadow will become available. The quest will advance again to the next objective, which is to find the leader of the Rashat-hai Orcs. After advancing through several rooms full of Orcs, you'll find a ramp upwards to a platform with two Orcs on it. Upon approaching the platform, you'll see the following notice: 'You spot an extremely pale Orc in the depths of the cave' and the last automatic bestowal quest Master of the Dead-folk will become available. The quest will advance again to the next objective, which is to defeat the leader of the Rashat-hai. Note: Using Mithril Coins to exit from the cave will cost 5  ! Also note: all of the Orcs in the cave do respawn. This is convenient for completing the Orc-slayer of the Westemnet or Orc-slayer of the Westemnet (Advanced) deed.

Bestowal dialogue 'Do not mistake my rudeness as ill-will for my kinsmen. This is merely a frustrating situation thrust upon all of us by Éowyn, who I am loath to admit... does have the best interests of the people in her heart. 'These Orcs concern me greatly, <name>. They have spooked the young and old, and those unfamiliar with the look of an Orc, but they fool me not. Whether they fashion themselves after the Dead Men of old or not, they still pose a serious threat to my people. 'You are one of few here that can stand against the Enemy's might, and I would ask that you find and explore where they scurry away to when light floods the Harrowdale.' Background Ellen Fremedon grows concerned by the Orc presence in the Harrowdale as her people make ready to travel to Dunharrow. Objective 1 Find the Orc-cave in the White Mountains The lair of the Rashat-hai can be found atop Dunharrow along the White Mountains. Ellen Fremedon has asked that you find and explore the lair of the Orcs that terrorize the people of Underharrow. You have found a passage into the heart of the White Mountains Objective 2 Patrol Gurz-shâpol Gurz-shâpol can be found atop the northern border of Dunharrow within the White Mountains. You have found the Orc-cave, and should now explore it. You see one of the Orcs keeping watch in the distance Objective 3 Patrol deeper into Gurz-shâpol Gurz-shâpol can be found atop the northern border of Dunharrow within the White Mountains. You have encountered the Orcs, but you know there is more to be found in the depths of this cave. The screams of Rohirrim pierce the air as you press onward Objective 4 Patrol deeper into Gurz-shâpol Gurz-shâpol can be found atop the northern border of Dunharrow within the White Mountains. You have discovered the Orcs and heard Rohirrim nearby. You should continue exploring the cave. Crude banners wave in the dank air of Gurz-shâpol Objective 5 Patrol deeper into Gurz-shâpol Gurz-shâpol can be found atop the northern border of Dunharrow within the White Mountains. You have made it deep into the Orc cave, but have seen no sign of the Orc-leader. You should continue your search. While exploring, you spot athelas growing on the cave floor Objective 6 Find the leader of the Rashat-hai Gurz-shâpol can be found atop the northern border of Dunharrow within the White Mountains. You have encountered many Orcs, captive Rohirrim, and even athelas, but you have yet to find the Rashat-hai leader. You should continue your search. You spot an extremely pale Orc in the depths of the cave Objective 7 Defeat the leader of the Rashat-hai The leader of the Rashat-hai can be found in the deepest reaches of Gurz-shâpol. You have found the Orc-leader and should now defeat him for the good of the people of Underharrow. Defeated Gûjah Objective 8 Talk to Ellen Fremedon Ellen Fremedon can be found outside the Mead Hall of Underharrow. You have purged the cave of the Rashat-hai and saved the people of Rohan from their vile plans. You should return to Ellen with these tidings. Ellen Fremedon: 'You fought back an entire cave of Orcs? 'I would think you mad if... nay, I do think you mad. Still, you have done much to protect my people, and for that, I am truly grateful. 'Perhaps with them slain, I can begin to believe their disguise, <name>. I just hope this is the last we see of them.'
