Walkthrough & Notes

Find Hundi a short distance to the west, at the western side of Echad Dúnann. This quest grants the character its first Legendary Item and a Tracery, which is a type of enhancement for legendary items. The next quest, "Chapter 10: Forgotten Lineage" gives an introductory explanation about the Legendary Item system. Thenceforth, Chapter 11: Forged Anew purports to demonstrate the "reforging" process (although no reforging is necessary to advance the quest line). Note that the selection of rewards from this quest, does not cover all possible options for all classes. If an existing weapon-type is not offered by this quest or from Chapter 13: Khazad-dûm at Last!, the only other ways to obtain one are to either barter for one in Gobeth Teithian (in Rivendell), for which normal entry requires the Seeker of Deep Places passive trait, acquired later in this quest chain, or acquire additional Legendary Items from various Valar (level skip) offerings, purchased in the LOTRO Store or from special promotions/giveaways. In theory, the tracery can be applied immediately to the Legendary Item, but due consideration should be given before doing so. In particular for higher-level characters, it may be better to simply disenchant (using Flame of Ancalamír) the traceries received from this quest line and barter for more level-appropriate ones, after the quest line is finished.

Bestowal dialogue 'We dare not approach our old camp until we find some way to defeat the creature in the Black Pool, <name>. I cannot let you pass. 'A number of dwarves of our expedition are resting at Echad Dúnann, just to the west. Speak to Hundi there; he was instrumental in uncovering the cache of weapons of which I spoke.' Background The dwarves are desperate for some means of defeating the Watcher that waits in the Black Pool before the Walls of Moria. Objective 1 Talk to Hundi Hundi is at Echad Dúnann, not far to the west of Ráthwald, in Eregion. Ráthwald has asked you to speak to his friend Hundi, who aided in the recovery of a cache of weapons that may prove useful. Ráthwald: 'Hundi is at Echad Dúnann, the camp just to the west of there. Speak to him about the cache of weapons his team recovered from one of the caves of Eregion.' Hundi: 'Ráthwald is right, my friend. Without a truly magnificent weapon forged in the ways of Old, we cannot hope to so much as score the flesh of that ancient creature. 'But legends of the past sometimes turn up when least expected. My friends and I found a cache of ancient weapons not long after the Iron Garrison came to this place. Select one of these weapons, and it may be that your choice will help us clear the way into Moria of that terrible creature. 'Take too this tracery to engrave upon your weapon, for I know of one who can help you understand the uses of these ancient relics.'
