I think we should split some of the guidelines we have in help section to separate pages and list them all with some short description on the guidelines page... --Xander 03:09, 6 March 2008 (PST)
Category:Help
I've dumped most of the help pages that were not otherwise categorized into Category:Guidelines. My intent here is to try and split separate "teaching" material for new editors (i.e. how do I do abc?) from "reference" material (i.e. what's the right way to do xyz?). I've not yet convinced myself that this is entirely a valid demarcation, but hopefully it'll start to make more sense as I write more of the teaching material side of things. Also to consider: Renaming the guideline-y pages with more guideline-y names? Sethladan 03:50, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
A feature or a bug?
- An interesting "bug" in the extension -- "CategoryTree" https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryTree
- <categorytree depth="1" showcount="on">Help</categorytree> yields:
- For some reason, "Guidelines" when expanded from the above shows "nothing found".
- Yet Category: Guidelines shows 18 pages. And
- And the Special Page: Category Tree, when Category= Guidelines and "namespace= Help does.
- {{Special%3ACategoryTree&target=guidelines&mode=all&namespaces=12}}
- Also "Article Creation" shows that there should be 16 entries (pages), but displays only 15, while Boilerplates counts and lists 22!

- Seems like a "feature," although not a very pleasant one:
{{#categorytree:Help|depth=0|namespaces=0 Help Category Template|showcount}}
yields...
- Looks like the CategoryTree extension only includes pages in the main namespace (and/or Category namespace under certain modes) by default. Sethladan 23:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
