This page is about the prince of Gondor and son of King Ondoher. For Son of Steward Denethor, see Faramir

Faramir was the younger son of King Ondoher Manardil of Gondor. He died in 1944 of the Third Age, having disguised himself and ridden to battle the Wainriders after his father and elder brother, Artamir. After his father and brother were killed, Faramir tried to flee northeast into the Dead Marshes, but he was hunted down by the Wainrider chieftain Zhan Ashû and killed there with a spear.

Unlike Ondoher and Artamir, Faramir has lingered, haunting the Wastes where he died. He can be found at several points in the Wastes throughout his questline, ending at the old fortress of Haerondir.

Prince Faramir's death left a complicated political situation behind. His sister Fíriel could have claimed the throne by the laws of Númenor- she and her husband, Arvedui, made the claim, but the throne of Gondor went instead to the general Eärnil II, father of Eärnur.
