Círdan the Shipwright
Description
Círdan is a Teleri Grey Elf lord, whose origins pre-date the First Age, going back to the Years of the Trees, perhaps as far back to the Great Journey from Cuiviénen to the Undying Lands.
He is encountered by High Elf characters in the year 3434 fighting with the elvish host of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men during the siege on the battle plain at Dagorlad at the end of the Second Age, and later by all characters in Mordor Besieged during the Siege during the Black Book quest line.

Lore
By the Third Age it was Círdan, or Nówë as he was originally known, resides in the Grey Havens or Mithlond. Círdan, a great mariner and shipwright, assists those of the Elves who wish to travel west across the waters to the elven home of Aman, which is comparable to our Heaven. He is said to possess the strongest foresight of all the Eldar in Middle-Earth, and was the only known elf to have aged enough to grow a very long beard.
Círdan at one time possessed Narya, one of the Elven Rings of Power, the Ring of Fire. Upon meeting Mithrandir on his arrival, he entrusted the Ring to him, knowing that the Grey Pilgrim would have need of it during his time in Middle Earth :
"Take now this Ring," he said to Mithrandir, "for thy labours and thy cares will be heavy, but in all it will support thee and defend thee from weariness. For this is the Ring of Fire, and herewith, maybe, thou shalt rekindle hearts to the valour of old in a world that grows chill." -- Unfinished Tales
