Description
Athelward is known as the Reeve of the Norcrofts. He is found inside the Mead Hall of Cliving, sitting on his throne.
"My father always said that a good leader serves not by sitting on his throne and giving orders. A great leader will lead his people by his example. This is why I must take to the field and face the dangers directly" — Athelward
Lore
"Reeve of Cliving, Althelward has been lost to despair ever since the death of his wife, and is now a shadow of his former self. He seeks to marry Thane Mildrith of Elthengels in order to produce a male heir and continue his line. "

- What goes on in this area?
- "The Norcrofts are the grazing-lands of Rohan, flat and treeless, and they have been subject to burning by frequent Orc-raids. They are my responsibility. The thanes of their other settlements are inexperienced, and need my guidance if they are to successfully protect their people."

- Thane Mildrith distrusts you.
- "I am sad to hear it, but I cannot blame her. O, the impetuousness of youth! I wish her son had not besmirched my honour, but I could not allow such a challenge to go unanswered. A sword-trial was the only true means to settle the matter, and the boy lost. I am sorry for that, but I could do naught else. I hope his mother comes to understand that my hands were tied, though I know the grief of a parent is a sharp and lasting thing."

- Why take Siflád to ward?
- "Mildrith is too overcome by grief to do right for her daughter, let alone her town. I can better provide for Siflád now than her mother can. It was simply the right thing to do. It is my hope that in the future Mildrith and I can come to an agreement that will allow for the care of Siflád in a more satisfactory fashion."
