Argeleb II was the 10th king of Arthedain, ruling the North-kingdom for 81 years from Third Age 1589 to 1670.
Argeleb II is best known as the King who granted the Shire to the Hobbits when many of them migrated west from Bree-land. He let them settle the land as they pleased in exchange for fealty to him, and a promise to keep all the bridges and roads tended and guarded, and to speed the royal messengers through their lands.
He is the ancestor of Arvedui Last-king, and thus of Aragorn Elessar.
