Amon Rûdh was a prominent stone hill in western Beleriand, located south of Brethil in the First Age. It was the chief dwelling place of the Petty-dwarves, most notably Mîm and his sons, who carved hidden halls and chambers within the hill.

The hill was named for its bald, bare crown of reddish stone, which stood out starkly above the surrounding land. From its summit, wide views could be had over the neighboring forests and plains.

Amon Rûdh was settled by the Petty-dwarves after their expulsion from other Dwarven domains. Hidden within its slopes, they delved secret halls that remained largely unknown to Elves and Men. For long years Mîm and his kin dwelt there in seclusion, guarding their refuge from outsiders.

With the decline and eventual extinction of the Petty-dwarves, Amon Rûdh was abandoned. Its hidden chambers fell into desolation, and the hill stood empty as the wars of Beleriand drew to their end.
