The War of the Last Alliance was the last extended conflict of the Second Age, and happened in and around Mordor between the Dark Lord Sauron and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. It lasted for 12 years, starting in 3429 with the First Fall of Minas Ithil, and ended in 2441 with the Siege of Barad-dûr leading to the defeat of Sauron.

The war held heavy casualties on both sides, and was especially hard on the commanders of the Alliance, with King Oropher of the Woodland Realm, King Amdír of Lórien, King Anárion of Gondor, High King Elendil and High King Gil-galad all being killed in the conflict.

Surviving belligerents include Isildur, Elrond, Cirdan and Thranduil.

Famous battles include the First Fall of Minas Ithil, Anárion's Defense of Osgiliath, the Battle of Dagorlad and the Siege of Barad-dûr.

The outcome of the war was the defeat of Sauron, albeit not permanently. It eventually also led to the loss of the One Ring two years later, and the decline of Arnor and Elvendom in Middle-earth.
