Early years and life in Dale

Ferader son of Haralder was born in Dale into a lower class family. When Ferader was at the early age of 14 his father passed away after being the victim of a bear attack, leaving Ferader and his older brother Thaldir to work and provide for the family. His first job was as a local merchant's assistant in Dale, where he worked for minimal wages. Because money was scarce, Ferader and his brother needed to gather many of the household's necessities themselves. Thaldir taught him how to use a bow, cut wood, track beasts and hunt, along with everything else he needed to know to become a proficient huntsman.

His mother, Erna, passed away when Ferader was 19 years old due to a long standing illness. At that time his brother had already married, and since he no longer needed to provide for his mother he moved with his wife to Edoras, where he subsequently became a Rider of Rohan. Ferader was therefore left to fend for himself, and made the decision to join the Dale militia. The bowmen of Dale being known for their superior skill, he saw this as an opportunity to hone his skills with a bow even further. This proved to be the case and Ferader quickly became well respected within the militia despite his early age.

Ferader was at times assigned to scout areas to the east near the borders of Rhûn and report in on the activities of the Easterlings, Dale's main opposing force. On one such assignment, when Ferader was 24 years old, he was taken captive by the Easterlings and taken to one of their camps beyond the borders where he was tortured and beaten for hours on end. Eventually he gave in and slipped information which lead the Easterlings to a Dalean military encampment. They attacked the encampment and left none alive save for one, who escaped and lived to tell the tale. During the attack, however, the Easterling camp was left poorly guarded which allowed Ferader to escape from captivity. In grave condition after the torture, Ferader was forced to wander the wilds for weeks. His cunning and extraordinary skills as a hunter allowed him to stay alive long enough to reach the next settlement not governed by men of Rhûn, where he recieved immediate medical attention. Ashamed of his previous moment of weakness, he believed he had betrayed Dale and it's people, and felt he was no longer welcome in their lands. Hence he hitched a ride at the back of the next caravan leaving the Dale-lands. This journey led him to Eriador, where he eventually settled in the small town of Archet to start a new life in exile, far from the battlefield.

Archet and back on the road again

For the next 10 years Ferader resided in Archet and worked as a forester and woodworker in the Chetwood. He had established himself in Archet as an excellent woodsman, but kept mostly to himself and completely shied away from his hunting roots. During the Assault on Archet he however was forced to go back to his old ways as a marksman to help drive the brigands off. After the attack he was bestowed the title of 'the Hero of Archet' for his successful efforts and saving many lives. Despite his heroism the town of Archet was left burned down and in ruin, which forced him to go out on the road again. At this time the Rangers called on him for aid, taking him on an epic journey through Eriador fighting the forces of Angmar.
