Description

Mótsog the Traitor is an infamous name among the Longbeards.

Once one of the closest friends of Durin the Deathless in the First Age, Mótsog was entrusted with the rule of Gundabad when Durin relocated with many of their people to build and inhabit Khazad-dûm. In Durin's absence, Mótsog raised the Greymaul Rebellion against his king. Mótsog ordered the city of Biriz-zahar built, south of Gundabad in the Misty Mountains above the Wells of Langflood. Much of the city was destroyed in battle, and it is known now as Sundergrót, occupied by goblins, orcs, and trolls. The Longbeard stories say that Mótsog was slain by Durin for his treachery in Sundergrót.
