Not really sure about the project, in my opinion, if it was carried out as proposed, there is no need for special model namespace. Can just use the file pages directly, have the items that use the cosmetic listed in the description of the file page, than transclude the text to the items as follows {{:File:image.jpg}}. Advantage would be that file pages also list on the bottom which pages uses that file, so it would be easy to spot if some item was missing in the list, or if some item isn't showing the picture. --Drono (talk) 09:20, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

While this is idea may be sound from a perfect technical side, is not practical. There is a much simpler way to achieve this using the image categories as the index. For example for the Item:Watcher's Leggings and Item:Recruit's Light Leggings of Adlan being the same design, simply copy the gallery section from the Watchers to the other item. To see what else uses the design simply click on the image and the file: page will show were else it is used. I have copied the the gallery over so you can see how easy i is,

This proposal makes this process more complex by adding a new index to be maintained. The key element is that someone must capture the image and upload it, OR identify that one exists and copy it. Most users do not see the data from something like the compendium (and I have never seen the image identifies in there), so just capture a screen image, so they need something simple. It also needs to enable images to be updated. Further, in the standard for many items is to have several images for each such as front and back or side. Managing that requires an more complex index. I also do not like have a reference on the item to others with the same image. Some images are shared by over 30 items, and it just takes up too much space to record them all in a item page, and is never up to date, when the actual image file has that information.

I have a long term interest in capturing the images, and have been working on head items for a several years. As part of this I am checking for same images and consolidating them, and adding missing ones. There are currently 2972 head items in the wiki and my database, of which I have confirmed and added/consolidated images for just over 2000. There are many more items that are not created in the wiki. To implement this project will require work on well over 20,000 items, remembering that it will not obtain the actual images as that is still manual.

I find the easiest way to do this type of work is to use the Item Treasury plugin to verify images by ctr-clicking, and capture them there if possible, although for heads I try to capture an image in game for improved quality. Most experienced editors use the treasury or compendium in this way.

I do not support this proposal and would not use it. Just go and copy the gallery files from those items with the same design and paste to the new item. Keep it simple!! Noddi (talk) 03:04, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
