I have been diligently inserting the speaker name. I currently use this format for NPC interactions:

:'''speaker''': 'dialog
:'more dialog'

And this format for conversations and such from the chat log:

:clipped text from the chat log

A good example of the need for retaining the speaker name is

• [68] Instance: The Will to Stand

Where, at the end of the instance, you speak to one NPC as an objective, and a second to end the instance. Without the speaker's name, it would not be so clear what is going on.
