Osvingarth was one of the dwarves out of Erebor when Smaug the Golden took over the mountain.

He journeyed to Moria with Thràin and Thorin and killed many goblins. He was friends with Thorin until he and his company left for Erebor and stayed behind with Gormr and the rest of the dwarves at Ered Luin.

He participated in finding all that was left Dourhand resistance in Ered Luin and crushed it until they moved to other regions like The Shire, where he took down Olwir in his plot to send a stone troll to Skorgrím at the Misty Mountains. He also went to the Lone-lands and punished the Shornbeards for their treachery and treason.
