Description
Míriel was the last Queen of Númenor, the daughter of Tar-Palantir, the first Númenorean king to take his name in Quenya instead of Adûnaic in several generations.
By all rights, Míriel should have been the fourth Ruling Queen of Númenor (and, depending on your source, she is sometimes referred to with the royal Tar- anyway), but Ar-Pharazôn forced their marriage after Tar-Palantir's death and usurped the throne. Besides being against Míriel's will, she and Pharazôn were first cousins, too closely related for marriage by the laws of Númenor. Pharazôn also gave to Tar-Míriel the Adûnaic name Ar-Zimraphel.
When Ar-Pharazôn sailed against the Valar and brought the wrath of Ilúvatar down on Númenor, Míriel tried at the last to scale the holy mountain, Meneltarma, but she was drowned by the waves anyway.
