What damage type stat improves the results of this skill: melee, ranged, or tactical? -Adelas (talk) 00:31, 5 November 2011 (EDT)
- Only level, as far as I know. Would be trivial to test, (just try using it with and without Stance:Strength and check if there's a difference in damage), but I can't imagine a "trap" as it is would improve with any stat. //Fingolwë (talk) 08:12, 5 November 2011 (EDT)
- Most skills say "Tactical Skill" or "Melee Skill" etc in their tooltip. If a skill doesn't have this, just don't fill anything in there. Most skills not having this actually aren't influenced by this anyway. You always get the same trap, no matter what you stats are (although it's strength increases with your level). --Ravanel (talk) 08:15, 5 November 2011 (EDT)
- By strength, do you mean the likelihood that it will "work" and not be resisted? Or the strength of the DOT? Again, like with set trap, I was just wondering what category of skill this is considered, because technically I do the skill, and it hurts someone, I thought it must fit in one of those three categories of damage that I can do. -Adelas (talk)
- By strength, I'd interpret that as the amount of damage. As for whether or not it'll "work", an enemy that walks into the snare (or trap) has to pass a Physical Resistance check. The chance of resisting the trap depends on the enemy's Physical Resistance Rating, which is converted into a percentage using your level (i.e. enemies that are lower level than yourself are less likely to resist, while higher level targets will resist more often). It's often possible to reduce the target resistance of certain skills or skill groups through traits and/or legacies (although this does not apply to traps, just a general note). Your Finesse rating will also reduce the chance of your skills being avoided or resisted, including traps. Finally, I checked in game to make sure, and the set trap/snare skills aren't categorized (as I suspected). Skills lacking damage or healing numbers in the tooltip are rarely (if ever) affected by any Offense rating, as is the case here. There is a Trait that will increase damage by 25%, but that's it (apart from your level, of course). If you want to "categorize" it for yourself, I suppose you could think of it as a tactical skill given it's pre-emptive nature, but the game does not consider it as such.
