Quest Text

The Runes of Malice "Varthmath, the brave Beorning, trusts his keen senses in that something indeed stirs the creatures of Máttugard from within the caverns, deep under the Mighty Court." Background Something stirs the creatures of Máttugard from within the caverns, deep under the Mighty Court. Objective 1 Talk to Varthmath Talk to Varthmath. Varthmath: 'The cavern is vast. Well, shall we continue then?' Objective 2 Search the cave for what stirs the beasts in Máttugard Explore the cave and learn of what stirs the beasts in Máttugard. Varthmath says, "This way." Varthmath says, "There are gredbyg down here as well." Varthmath says, "There are hives and nests everywhere!" Varthmath says, "Look, down there! That obelisk must be the source of the frenzy and corruption upon the beasts!" A ritual obelisk of the Iron Crown has been constructed in the caverns! Objective 3 Defeat the frenzied deep-claw Defeat the frenzied grodbog Defeat the frenzied beasts guarding the ritual obelisk. Varthmath says, "The only way to that obelisk is to defeat what is inadvertently guarding it!" Defeated the frenzied deep-claw Varthmath says, "The large deep-claw has been defeated! Great work!" Defeated the frenzied grodbog Varthmath says, "Excellent, the giant grodbog has been defeated! Keep at it!" Objective 4 Destroy the Ritual Obelisk Destroy the ritual obelisk. The ritual obelisk has been destroyed! Varthmath says, "We have done it! The obelisk has been destroyed!" Varthmath: 'That obelisk was certainly a creation of the Angmarim. Come, let us return to the Steepset and report what we have found.'
