Walkthrough & Notes

Completing this quest will end the assault upon the Mirk-eaves instanced area. Any quests you have not yet completed in the Mirk-eaves instanced area will be cancelled and will no longer be accessible after completing this instance. (See the Quest Chain section, above, for affected quests.) This is a Solo quest, and cannot be completed with a Fellowship. This is a fairly straight forward scripted attack on the orc held fortress at a moderate difficulty level. The Fortress Commander (the final boss), has extremely high mitigations for all attack and damage types - except Finesse. Items providing a Finesse bonus are recommended. The Commander will call for reinforcements midway through the battle. Targeting these new foes keeps them from overwhelming your character and allies. Your character must be alive when the Fortress Commander is defeated. Successfully completing the instance requires that the Fortress Commander, and all of the reinforcements, must be defeated. If defeated, your character can rez and then rush back into battle for another attempt on the Commander, if Fuirgam has not yet been defeated. Otherwise you will need to re-start the entire instance.

Quest Text

The Golden Host is preparing to bring the first act of their invasion on Mirkwood to a close with an all-out assault upon the hill overlooking the landing." Background Fuirgam is prepared to launch his assault upon the Orc fortress overlooking the Mirk-eaves. He has asked you to join his forces for the attack, which, if successful, should break the back of the Orkish forces defending the forest, allowing the Malledhrim to advance to the tower of Dol Guldur. Objective 1 Talk to Fuirgam Defeat the Fortress Commander Fuirgam must survive Speak with Fuirgam and begin the assault upon the Orc fortress! Fuirgam: 'Now is the time for us to strike! The uruk commander atop the fortress within is our target, should he fall, so falls the fortress to our claim! 'If you are prepared in body and mind, then I shall begin the assault!' Fuirgam says, "Forwards, Malledhrim! Let the attack begin!" Fuirgam says, "A troll holds the gate! Do not waver!" Fuirgam says, "Clear the courtyard, Malledhrim! Let none escape our wrath!" Fuirgam says, "The vile uruk who leads them hides within the keep ahead...let none bar your path!" Fuirgam says, "Another troll has entered the fray! Beware!" Agorin says, "More come from behind! See to your backs!" Fuirgam says, "There he stands! As he falls, so does this fortress! Victory is at hand!" Agorin says, "There are more reinforcements upon us! Take care!" Agorin says, "The enemy grow desperate and have thrown their last into the fray! Hold fast!" Fuirgam says, "The enemy commander has fallen...rout any who remain!" Fuirgam says, "Victory, my brethren! The fortress is fallen and the road to Dol Guldur is ours!" You are victorious! Objective 2 Talk to Fuirgam Talk to Fuirgam to end the battle and claim the fortress for the Malledhrim! Fuirgam: 'Your valiant strength has bought us this day, <name>! 'With the fall of this cur, the Orcs are broken and no strength of theirs can stay our advance until we stand athwart the gates of Dol Guldur itself!' Fuirgam: 'This fort is ours now and the Orcs have been sent reeling back to cower at the heels of their masters in Dol Guldur! 'Now we must make haste to claim the roads that lie between the Mirk-eaves and the Necromancer's dark abode! I plan to make base among the ancient ruins of Emyn Lum, <name> - may fate bring us together again there, for the days ahead shall be consumed with tumult and pain, ere we reach our final goal.'
