A Silent Presence
"We must learn if it is an Angmarim ritual within the Drearspire that causes these worrisome visions. If it is... we will stop it!"

Background

You have come with Imák and Venko to Tûr Fúar, the Drearspire, to learn if an Angmarim ritual is behind the curious happenings within Câr Bronach.

Objective 1

Imák and Venko wait for you on the hill upon which the Drearspire stands.

Imák: 'The snow has begun. It is not yet very heavy, but if it gets worse perhaps it will mask our approach.
'Let us try to do this without fighting, if we can. I wager the answers we seek will be on an upper level of the tower, and the further we can get without making noise, the more we will learn.
'[non-Brawler: Agreed? Good.] [Brawler: Will this be a problem, Brawler?]'

Objective 2

  • Follow Imák and Venko toward the Drearspire

Imák and Venko hope your presence in the Drearspire will go unnoticed as you investigate the Angmarim interest in the tower.

Imák says, "Let's go."
Venko says, "Where have the guards gone?"
Imák says, "It's awfully quiet."
Venko says, "I'll not complain... but it is strange."
Venko says, "Over here! A side door we can use!"
Venko says, "This side door seems promising... and unguarded!"

Objective 3

  • Talk to Venko beside the side entrance to the Drearspire

Venko stands before a side entrance to the Drearspire, considering its suitability for your purpose.

Venko: 'Still we have seen no guards, and it seems to me we might have walked right up to the front door of the tower, if that was our wish! We have either been very fortunate to this point... or it is a trap.
'Let us use this side entrance. It may allow us to surprise any Angmarim that might lie in ambush for us within the Drearspire.'

Objective 4

  • Enter the Drearspire with Imák and Venko
Loud mechanisms operate noisily inside Tûr Fúar, but the halls are empty

Objective 5

  • Talk to Imák inside the Drearspire

You have entered the Drearspire with Imák and Venko, in search of answers: what villainy have the Angmarim conducted within Câr Bronach?

Imák: 'A tower of this size could hold a battalion of Angmarim, <name>, and our prior scouting revealed that recently it did! Where then have the cultists gone?
'Let us proceed, and let caution be the watch-word.'

Objective 6

  • Explore the Drearspire with Imák and Venko

You have entered the Drearspire with Imák and Venko and should search the tower for answers.

Imák says, "Onward... but remain alert!"

Objective 7

  • Talk to Venko inside the Drearspire

Inside the Drearspire, Venko has called for you to halt.

Venko: 'I hear the voices of Angmarim from just ahead, <name>. Let us advance, slowly, and see if we can eavesdrop on their conversation. Let us remain out of sight and we may learn what they seek to do here in Câr Bronach, and elsewhere.'
He turns to address your Stout-axe companion.
'Imák, you stay here and guard the path of our escape, in the even we need it. But we will try to avoid being seen by these villains.
'Come, <name>, and make as little noise as possible!'
Imák says, "Fine. But don't be long."

Brawlers:

Imák says, "Fine. Wait, is this because you think I can't be quiet?'

Objective 8

  • Eavesdrop on the discussion between the cultists in the Drearspire
  • Avoid being seen by the Angmarim cultists

You have entered the Drearspire with Imák and Venko, and now you have the opportunity to eavesdrop on some of the Angmarim who remian in the tower. Perhaps you will learn what these evil folk seek to accomplish within Câr Bronach and elsewhere.

You must not be seen by the Angmarim cultists.

Covairë says, "Did you hear that?"
Mornair says, "No. What did you hear?"
Covairë says, "I'm not sure. Maybe it was nothing."
Mornair says, "You've been jumpy ever since you came back from Barad Gúlaran."
Mornair says, "What happened to you, Covairë?"
Covairë says, "Ever since we brought the Máltagar here..."
Mornair says, "Ailgar called it the Fell Graver."
Covairë says, "Aye."
Covairë says, "I don't like it, Mornair."
Covairë says, "You know I fear nothing! But there's something wrong with that artifact."
Covairë says, "I only carried it for a short time, but even that was too long."
Covairë says, "Did I tell you I saw Govard?"
Mornair says, "But she died months ago."
Covairë says, "I saw her standing not ten feet from me, just as she was in life."
Mornair says, "But how?"
Mornair says, "You think the Fell Graver showed her to you?"
Covairë says, "I don't know."
Covairë says, "But I am glad Rúvaran has taken it away."
Mornair says, "What does he plan to do with it?"
Covairë says, "There are some warding runes preventing passage to a sacred lake of the dwarves."
Covairë says, "He plans to break them with the Máltagar."
Mornair says, "Well, good luck to him."
Mornair says, "Sometimes I wonder if Govard was the luckiest of us, after all."
Covairë says, "I wonder?"
Venko: 'Our investigation has borne fruit, <name>: it seems the strange occurences within Câr Bronach are not entirely understood by the Angmarim cultists themselves.
'But there is reason for us to leave this tower, and with haste! The Angmarim leader Rúvaran now possesses an artifact with which he hopes to break the runes on Gloomingtarn, where stand the still waters of the sacred lake of Durin!
'We will set aside the mysteries of Câr Bronach for now. Rúvaran and his Angmarim must be opposed!'
