This quest counts for the Aiding the Wold deed.
Completing Aiding the Eastemnet will cancel this quest
This is an instanced public questing area.
You must defeat the Easterlings by yourself, or with the help of another player character. When the Rohirrim Footman NPCs tap an Easterling, they will steal your kill.
To avoid the NPC tapping your targets, the enemy mobs spawn and approach from the eastern fields, so move out some distance to intercept them.
The arrow attack initiated during the other instance quest does harm to the mobs so can be used within a certain range of the city walls.
When wishing to leave the instance either enter the Hawick entrance instance portal, or use the 'Leave Instance' function (right click the character portrait).
If you need a rest simply leave the public instance and speak to Wulfin to re-enter when you have recovered.

Easterlings have come across the river and are marching on Harwick.

The Easterlings are attacking Harwick.

Wulfin has alerted you to the fact that Easterlings are about to descend upon Harwick.

Wulfin: 'Are you ready to make a stand with us and defend Harwick?'

Enter the Public Instance: Defence of Harwick

Wulfin can be found in Harwick.

Wulfin will be pleased to hear Harwick is secure.

Wulfin: 'I do not know how they got up fromthe river so quickly, but I am glad you were here to aid us.'
