Hador Lórindol was a key leader of the Edain in the First Age of Middle-earth and the founder of the House of Hador. Known for his courage and wisdom, he was an Elf-friend and ancestor to Húrin Thalion. Hador was a leader of the Third House of the Edain, whose family had a long history of interaction with the Elves of Beleriand. Hador himself entered the household of the first High King of the Noldor, where he became beloved by the king. In F.A. 416, the High King granted Hador a hereditary fiefdom where he gathered his kin and established the noble House of Hador. To commemorate the event, Hador was presented with a famed helm, later called the Helm of Hador.
Hador was remembered as the greatest chieftain of the Edain, speaking Elvish in his household and acting as a peer to Elven lords. He ruled his people for 39 years until the Dagor Bragollach. During the battle, he commanded the rearguard at the spring of Eithel Sirion and was slain alongside his youngest son. His House remained the preeminent family among the Edain.
Etymology
Hador's epithet, Lórindol, is the lenited form of Glórindol, Sindarin for "Goldenhead," derived from glaur ("golden") and dol ("head"). The epithet references his golden hair, a trait shared by many members of his House.
