Erêsh was one of the successor realms that emerged in the aftermath of the Madâr, the civil war that ended the Years of Joy and fractured the Shârate of Hamât. Alongside Hamât, it was recognized under the truce arranged by the merchants of Jaghâna in the T.A. 800s, which divided the once-unified kingdom into two rival realms. In the peace settlement brokered in T.A. 832, Hamât and Erêsh became separate realms. Ambarûl, though loyalist in the war, were not bound to either successor realm but instead placed under the Ibili council as a neutral buffer. Although the peace brought by the Ibili council prevented renewed open conflict, relations between Hamât and Erêsh remained tense. The merchants of Jaghâna, backed by Gondor’s interests in containing Khandari influence, acted as a stabilizing force, ensuring that the fragile truce held.
