Bestowal dialogue

'The miners insist that we defend this post with our lives against the goblins that hold the Silvertine Lodes, and yet they have found no trace of Mithril here yet!

'So be it, we will endure, but we need to learn more about the threat of the goblins lest they find us unprepared and overwhelm us. I need you to do battle with the goblins and see if you can discover some clue as to whether they serve some greater master, or are a lesser tribe that we might dispatch with a strong offensive.'

Background

Thalfar of the Deep Descent needs to discover if the nearby goblins serve some more powerful master, or if they are a tribe separate from the rest of the Moria goblins.

Find some evidence of their allegiance if you can.

Objective 1

  • Find evidence of the goblins' allegiance

Thalfar hopes you can find some evidence amongst the goblins of the Silvertine Lodes indicating their allegiance within the other tribes of Moria.

Thalfar: 'I am not at all sure it is wise to remain here in the deeps. With the goblins a constant threat and no sign of Mithril, it hardly seems worth the risk….

Objective 2

Thalfar is in the Deep Descent within the Silvertine Lodes.

You should return to Thalfar and show him the Mark of Mazog.

Thalfar: 'What is that? A goblin coin? Wait, what is imprinted into it? The Mark of Mazog....
'We have heard some rumours of Mazog from our expedition in the Twenty-first Hall - he is some kind of powerful warlord amongst the goblins and orcs of eastern Moria.
'If it is true that his influence extends this far into the western halls then we must avoid any reckless assault upon the goblins - if they were to be reinforced in great numbers from the East our offensive would be turned aside and our foothold here would surely be lost.
'For now we must hold, but if our miners do not soon find some trace of the riches of old, then we may need to rethink our presence here.'
